Mason is an intermediate-level knitted pullover sweater available in ten sizes, ranging from 39 inches to 77.5 inches finished chest circumference. The pullover is designed with a classic construction method and offers generous positive ease of 12 to 14 inches at the chest for a comfortable, relaxed fit. The sample shown measures 47.5 inches with 11.5 inches of positive ease incorporated into the design.

Knitting Techniques and Stitches

This pullover employs several fundamental knitting techniques appropriate for intermediate-level crafters. The brioche stitch forms the primary stitch pattern, creating a distinctive textured fabric with characteristic vertical columns and dimensional appearance. Construction requires proficiency in increasing and decreasing stitches to shape the garment pieces, as well as picking up stitches along finished edges. Seaming is used to join the front, back, and sleeve panels together, while tubular cast on and bind off techniques are employed to create refined, professional-looking edges that blend seamlessly with the brioche stitch pattern.

Construction Method

The Mason pullover uses a flat construction approach. The front panel, back panel, and both sleeves are worked individually from the bottom upward in flat rows, then carefully seamed together to form the completed sweater body. The neckband is worked separately in the round using picked-up stitches from the finished neckline opening, allowing for a polished neckline finish. A circular needle accommodates the large number of stitches required for the neckband circumference.

Yarn and Materials

Mason is designed for Hudson + West Co. Forge, a premium American yarn blend containing 70% U.S. Merino wool and 30% U.S. Corriedale wool. This worsted-weight yarn offers 235 yards per 3.5-ounce skein (215 meters per 100 grams). The colorway featured in the sample is tobacco. Yardage requirements range from 6 skeins for the smallest size to 10 skeins for the largest size, depending on the finished garment dimensions selected.
