Product Description

Marine party shawl is a triangle shawl with variety of stitches. There are total of 7 sections in this pattern. You can arrange these sections as you like. All you have to do is increase 4sts every RS row to grow the shawl. I love marine colors so used off white and navy blue, you can use any colors and any materials.

NOTE: If you add or subtract any rows, you must make sure that you have a multiple of 4stitches on either side of the center markers when you start the Section 2 and multiple of 8stitches when you start the Section 4.

What is Being Made

The Marine Party Shawl is a triangular knit shawl designed as a versatile accessory piece. This downloadable knitting pattern creates a generous, wearable triangle shawl with a wingspan of 198cm (78 inches) and a bottom width of 152cm (60 inches), with a length of 71cm (28 inches) from top to bottom. The shawl is offered in one size but features adjustable dimensions, allowing knitters to customize the finished measurements to their preferences.

Pattern Structure and Design

The Marine Party Shawl pattern is organized into seven distinct sections, offering knitters creative flexibility in how they arrange these components. This modular approach allows for personalization while maintaining structural integrity. The shawl grows through a consistent increase method: 4 stitches are increased on every right-side row, creating the characteristic triangular silhouette. When modifying the pattern by adding or subtracting rows, knitters must ensure specific stitch multiples are maintained—a multiple of 4 stitches on either side of the center markers when beginning Section 2, and a multiple of 8 stitches when starting Section 4.

Stitches and Techniques Used

This intermediate-level knitting project incorporates a variety of stitches throughout its seven sections, creating visual interest and texture variation. The pattern employs center markers to define shaping zones and uses increases worked on right-side rows as the primary construction technique. The combination of different stitch patterns across sections allows for both decorative elements and structural shaping.

Materials and Yarn Specifications

The Marine Party Shawl pattern recommends using two colors for optimal visual impact, though any colorway is suitable for this design. The original design features:

  • Color 1 (C1): 2 balls of Garnstudio Drops Safran in Off White (Color #18), sport weight, approximately 318 meters (347.8 yards) total
  • Color 2 (C2): 2 balls of Garnstudio Drops Safran in Navy Blue (Color #9), sport weight, approximately 207 meters (226 yards) total

The pattern specifies sport weight yarn, with the Garnstudio Drops Safran yarn used in the original design offering 159 meters per 50-gram ball. Knitters may substitute any yarn of comparable weight and yardage in their preferred colors.

Needles and Gauge

This project requires a 2.75mm circular needle, which accommodates the increasing stitch count as the triangular shawl expands. The pattern is worked to a gauge of 20 stitches by 25 rows over 10 centimeters in stockinette stitch. Achieving this gauge is essential for obtaining the intended finished dimensions.

Difficulty Level

Rated as an intermediate-level knitting project, the Marine Party Shawl is suitable for knitters with foundational skills who are ready to work with multiple stitch patterns and manage increases across multiple sections. The modular design and straightforward increase method make it accessible, while the variety of stitches provides an engaging challenge.
