Product Description
Saludos,

Llavero Winkul Crochet Keychain by Crochaut
What Is Being Made
The Llavero Winkul is a small crocheted keychain inspired by Mapuche cultural spirituality. This intermediate-level crochet project creates a decorative charm approximately 5.5 cm wide by 6.5 cm tall, designed to attach to keys or bags. The design draws inspiration from the Mapuche concept of ngen-winkul, the spiritual guardian of mountains and volcanoes in indigenous Chilean cosmology, making this a culturally meaningful handmade accessory.
Crochet Techniques Used
The Llavero Winkul employs both conventional crochet and tapestry crochet techniques to create its finished design. The pattern uses a back-and-forth (ida y vuelta) working method, allowing crafters to build the piece row by row. Tapestry crochet technique enables color changes and pattern integration directly into the fabric, creating visual interest while maintaining structural integrity. This combination of techniques makes the project suitable for intermediate-level crocheters who have mastered basic stitches and are ready to explore color work and more complex construction methods.
Stitches and Stitch Abbreviations
The following crochet stitches are used throughout this pattern:
- Cadeneta (ca) — chain stitch, the foundation stitch for starting the project
- Punto alto (pa) — single crochet or equivalent stitch for building fabric
- Punto bajo (pb) — slip stitch alternative or lower stitch for shaping
- Punto deslizado (pd) — slip stitch, used for joining and finishing
- Disminución (dism) — decrease stitch, used to shape the keychain and create definition
Materials and Tools
This pattern calls for 100% cotton yarn in DK, sport, or worsted weight, depending on desired finished size and drape. Specific colors include blue or light blue (celeste) cotton and white cotton for color work and contrast. A 2.0 mm crochet hook is recommended for working with the specified yarn weights. Additional materials include cotton fiberfill for stuffing to give the keychain dimension and structure, and a keychain chain attachment for functionality. A yarn needle is essential for weaving in ends and seaming pieces together, and scissors are needed for finishing.
