Product Description

Say hello to the elves. These elves love playing in the forest, but when it’s time to help Father Christmas with all of his Christmas planning they will be right there! Both the girl and the boy elf dolls are included in this pattern, as are the autumn extras for the autumn elves. These would make great seasonal decorations or toys.

This pattern is written with US crochet notation and is an intermediate level pattern, some crochet knowledge of basic stitches is required.

Using the materials suggested these elves measure 20cm (8in) tall. Any yarn can be used with this pattern with an appropriate size crochet hook to create a tight tension, although other yarns may affect the size of the finished elf. Suggested materials: DK (8ply) 100% cotton yarn, 2.5mm crochet hook, toy stuffing and 6mm safety eyes.

Please do not copy, reproduce or sell this pattern. This pattern is for personal use only.

Little Autumn & Christmas Elves Crochet Pattern

What is Being Made

Little Autumn & Christmas Elves is a downloadable crochet pattern designed by Victoria Kairis of Smiley Crochet Things for creating decorative toy elves. The finished dolls measure approximately 20cm (8 inches) in height by 9cm (3.5 inches) in width, making them suitable for holiday decorations, seasonal displays, or as handmade gifts. This pattern allows crafters to create festive elf characters that capture the charm of both autumn and Christmas themes.

Techniques Used

This pattern employs the amigurumi method, a specialized crochet technique for creating three-dimensional stuffed toys and dolls. The amigurumi approach involves working in continuous spirals rather than joining rounds, which creates seamless, organic shapes ideal for soft sculpture. The pattern notes that when working in a clockwise direction, the right side of the fabric will naturally face outward, and the front loops will be positioned on the exterior of the piece. This technique requires attention to working into the correct loops to achieve the intended appearance and structure of the finished elf dolls.

Stitches and Construction Details

The pattern utilizes fundamental crochet stitches appropriate for amigurumi construction. Crafters should note that starting chains do not count as the first stitch unless specifically stated within the pattern instructions. This is an important distinction in amigurumi patterns, as it affects stitch counts and shaping throughout the project. The intermediate difficulty level indicates that this pattern is best suited for crocheters with foundational skills and experience working with basic stitches and shaping techniques.

Materials and Yarn Specifications

The pattern calls for Paintbox Yarns Cotton DK (also known as 8ply), a medium-weight yarn composed of 100% cotton. The specific yarn colors required are:

  • Champagne White (403) – 5g / 13 meters (1 ball)
  • Light Caramel (409) – 18g / 45 meters (1 ball)
  • Coffee Bean (411) – 16g / 41 meters (1 ball)

DK weight yarn is a versatile choice for amigurumi, providing enough structure for well-defined details while remaining soft and workable. Cotton yarn offers durability and a smooth finish, making these elf toys suitable for display or gentle play. Crocheters will need an appropriate crochet hook sized for DK yarn (typically a US H/5.0mm or I/5.5mm hook, though the specific hook size should be verified in the complete pattern) to achieve the correct gauge and finished dimensions.

Pattern Overview

Designed by independent designer Victoria Kairis, this pattern is presented in US crochet notation and is available as a downloadable PDF file. The intermediate skill level suggests that crafters should be comfortable with basic amigurumi construction, increasing and decreasing stitches for shaping, and working with multiple yarn colors. The pattern is ideal for holiday crafters seeking to create charming, handmade elf decorations with seasonal appeal.
