Product Description
Hand-designed letter P dishcloth pattern. All of my patterns are free-drawn and converted to a pattern on knitting graph paper. I never use knitting pattern creation software to design my patterns. One skein of sugar n cream yarn on size 4 (US) needles is used to create each dishcloth.
Letter P Dishcloth by Nikki's Needles
What is Being Made
The Letter P Dishcloth is an original knitting pattern designed by Nikki's Needles that creates a functional kitchen textile featuring a decorative letter "P" motif. This dishcloth measures approximately 7.5 inches by 9 inches when finished, making it an ideal size for everyday kitchen use. The pattern incorporates the letter design through a charted knitting technique, allowing crafters to create a personalized dishcloth with clear visual definition of the letter.
Techniques Used
This pattern employs stockinette stitch as the primary knitting technique, which creates a smooth, classic fabric with a distinctive V-pattern appearance on the right side. The letter P is integrated into the design through a pattern chart that guides stitch placement across the central 30 stitches of the work. The designer uses a strategic approach by maintaining stockinette stitch on the first and last 5 stitches of each row, creating a clean border frame around the charted letter design. This combination of basic stitch work with chart-following creates visual interest while remaining accessible to beginner-level knitters.
Stitches Used
- Knit stitch (K) – the fundamental stitch that forms the foundation of the fabric
- Purl stitch (P) – used in combination with knit stitches to create the stockinette stitch pattern
- Stockinette stitch (St st) – the primary stitch pattern created by alternating knit and purl rows, used throughout the dishcloth including the border sections
Materials
The Letter P Dishcloth is worked in Sugar 'N Cream cotton yarn, a worsted weight yarn that is ideal for dishcloths due to its durability and absorbency. One skein of yarn is sufficient to complete the entire project. Knitters will need US size 4 needles (3.5mm) to achieve the proper gauge and fabric density for this pattern. The cotton yarn choice makes this dishcloth particularly practical for kitchen use, as cotton fibers are known for their moisture-wicking properties and ability to withstand frequent washing.
Difficulty Level
This pattern is rated as beginner difficulty, making it an excellent choice for knitters who are new to the craft or those looking for a quick, satisfying project. The straightforward combination of knit and purl stitches, along with the simple cast-on of 40 stitches, requires only fundamental knitting knowledge. Following a pattern chart adds a small step up in complexity, but the clear structure and repetitive nature of the work make it manageable for beginners seeking to develop their chart-reading skills.
