Len the Bunny in an Easter Egg Crochet Pattern

What Is Being Made

Len the Bunny in an Easter Egg is a charming stuffed toy designed by Stacey Trock, featuring an adorable Easter bunny nestled inside a decorative crocheted egg. This finished amigurumi-style project stands 6.5 inches tall and makes an ideal seasonal decoration or gift. The design combines two distinct elements—the bunny figure and the egg container—creating a delightful three-dimensional craft piece perfect for Easter celebrations or year-round display.

Crochet Techniques and Construction

This intermediate-level crochet project uses fundamental amigurumi construction techniques to create a stuffed toy with dimensional shaping. The pattern employs working in continuous rounds to build the bunny and egg components, with strategic increases and decreases to form the characteristic rounded shapes of both elements. Crafters will work with worsted weight yarn throughout, which provides excellent stitch definition and makes the finished toy sturdy and durable for handling.

The construction process involves crocheting separate components—the bunny body and the egg shell—which are then assembled together. This modular approach allows for easier construction and helps maintain consistent tension throughout the project. The pattern does not specify gauge requirements, as the focus is on creating a properly proportioned stuffed animal rather than achieving exact measurements, making this project more forgiving for intermediate crocheters.

Stitches Used

  • Chain (ch) – Used for foundation and structural elements
  • Single Crochet (sc) – The primary stitch for building the main fabric of both the bunny and egg components
  • Single Crochet 2 Together (sc2tog) – Used for decreasing stitches to shape the rounded forms and create proper amigurumi shaping

Materials and Yarn Specifications

This project requires less than 220 yards total, making it an economical choice that uses minimal yarn. The pattern calls for worsted weight yarn in multiple colors, with the sample created using Plymouth Galway 100% wool yarn. The color palette includes:

  • Main Color (MC): White (Plymouth Galway color #01) for the egg base
  • Secondary Color (SC): Medium Pink (Plymouth Galway color #162) for accent details
  • Accent Color 1 (AC1): Light Pink (Plymouth Galway color #170) for additional shading
  • Accent Color 2 (AC2): Light Green (Plymouth Galway color #158) for decorative elements
  • Accent Color 3 (AC3): Medium Green (Plymouth Galway color #146) for finishing details

While the pattern specifies Plymouth Galway wool, any worsted weight yarn can be substituted, allowing crafters flexibility in fiber choice and color selection. A single skein of each color provides more than enough yarn for completion.

Additional Supplies

Beyond yarn, this project requires a Size H crochet hook for working with worsted weight yarn. Finishing supplies include two 12mm blue animal eyes with pliers for secure attachment, a tapestry needle for weaving in ends and assembling components, and a few handfuls of polyester fiberfill or similar stuffing material to create the three-dimensional form of the bunny figure.
