Product Description
Landscape shawl is a good project for using leftovers or partial skeins. I used different colors, and expressed four kinds of landscapes: Forest, Water, City and Sunset. All you have to do is make a simple triangle shape and work linen stitches. I would love to see how you describe the landscapes!

Landscape Shawl by Takako Takiguchi
What Is Being Made
The Landscape shawl is a triangular knitted wrap designed to showcase creative colorwork inspired by natural scenery. This downloadable knitting pattern allows crafters to express different landscape themes through strategic color choices. The designer's sample features four distinct landscapes—Forest, Water, City, and Sunset—created by working with green, grey, blue-grey, and pink yarns. The finished shawl is adjustable in size, with the sample measuring approximately 200cm in wingspan and 84cm in length, making it a versatile accessory suitable for various occasions and personal style preferences.
Design Concept and Customization
This pattern encourages creative personalization by allowing knitters to select colors that represent their favorite scenery. Rather than being limited to the designer's four landscape interpretations, crafters can choose alternative themes such as desert, plains, tropical environments, coastal or ocean scenes, or even personal locations like a backyard or neighborhood. This flexibility makes the Landscape shawl an excellent vehicle for self-expression through fiber arts.
Techniques and Stitches Used
The Landscape shawl is constructed using linen stitches, a fundamental knitting technique that creates a textured, fabric-like appearance. The pattern employs a simple triangle shape as its foundational structure, making it accessible to knitters with beginner-level experience. The linen stitch technique involves alternating knit and purl stitches in a systematic pattern, which produces a dense, reversible fabric with visual interest and dimensional texture.
Materials and Yarn Requirements
The Landscape shawl is an ideal project for using yarn leftovers and partial skeins, making it economical and sustainable. The designer's sample incorporates five distinct yarn colors:
- C1 (Grey): BC Garn Allino in Grey—3 balls, approximately 120g and 300m (328yd)
- C2 (Green): Drops Nord color #9 Deep Ocean—2 balls, approximately 80g and 270m (295yd)
- C3 (Blue-grey): Drops Safran #50 Light Ice Blue—2 balls, approximately 100g and 310m (339yd)
- C4 (White): Drops Safran #18 Off White—1 ball, approximately 10g and 30m (32yd)
- C5 (Pink): Drops Safran (specific color and yardage details provided in complete pattern)
Yarn Weight and Needle Specifications
The Landscape shawl is designed to work with DK and sport weight yarns, which are lightweight options that create drape and fluidity in the finished shawl. These yarn weights are ideal for lace and textured stitch patterns, allowing the linen stitch to display its dimensional qualities while maintaining the shawl's elegant drape and wearability.
Skill Level
This pattern is classified as beginner-friendly, making it accessible to knitters who are new to shawl construction or linen stitch techniques. The straightforward triangle shape and repetitive stitch pattern provide an excellent foundation for developing fundamental knitting skills while creating a beautiful, finished garment.
