Materials: *Color 1, main color (elastic yarn recommended)> 260(300,380,470,580,680) meters / 285(230,416,515,635,744) yds. Color 2> 150(180,260,320,390,470) meters / 164(200,285,350,427,514) yds.
*Yarn weight is 3/ DK/light worsted for color 1 and 2. For color 2 also works fine/2/sport/light - 4ply/fingering weight yarn. The skirt in the pictures are made with Cascade Fixation (black/white skirt). Colorful skirt made with Alize Diva Stretch double stranded as color 1 and for color 2 I used DMC Natura just cotton and Katia Jaipur in turns (notice that if doubled, you’ll need double the meters/yds of yarn).
I am happy to help if, you have any problems with the pattern or you have any questions!
Lady Midnight Skirt by Elina Vaananen
What is Being Made
The Lady Midnight Skirt is a downloadable crochet pattern designed by Elina Vaananen for the independent designer brand Capitana Uncino. This is an intermediate-level crochet skirt project that features a two-color construction, creating a striking visual effect through color blocking or striping techniques.
Craft and Primary Technique
This pattern is executed entirely in crochet, making it suitable for crocheters with intermediate skill levels. The two-color design allows crafters to create visual interest through strategic color placement, whether through striping, color blocking, or other two-tone construction methods typical of crochet garment design.
Yarn Materials and Weight
The Lady Midnight Skirt uses DK weight yarn (also referred to as light worsted) for both colors in the primary construction. The pattern is flexible regarding yarn selection:
- Color 1: 260–680 meters (285–744 yards) depending on size, with elastic yarn recommended for this component
- Color 2: 150–470 meters (164–514 yards) depending on size, and can accommodate sport weight, light 4-ply, or fingering weight yarn as alternatives
Yarn Recommendations and Examples
The pattern provides specific yarn examples from the designer's own projects. The black and white skirt pictured was created using Cascade Fixation. The colorful version combines Alize Diva Stretch (doubled) for Color 1, while Color 2 alternates between DMC Natura (just cotton) and Katia Jaipur. When using lighter weight yarns, doubling the yarn may be necessary to achieve the correct gauge and fabric density.
Tools Required
While specific hook sizes are not detailed in the provided content, crocheters should expect to use an appropriate crochet hook sized for DK weight yarn, typically in the range of 3.5–4.5mm, adjusted according to personal gauge and the specific yarn chosen.
Pattern Format and Usage
This is a downloadable PDF pattern that is copyright protected by Capitana Uncino. Crafters are welcome to create and sell finished skirts made from this pattern, provided they reference the designer's shop and pattern name in any sales or promotional materials.
