Product Description

The sample Interwoven Blanket (shown in photos) is knit using Bare Naked Wools 'Stone Soup Fingering' held double. This rustic yarn provides wonderful stitch definition without a lot of weight. The sample shown here was knit with two colours of Stone Soup Fingering held together for the centre of the blanket, producing a marled effect. Any worsted weight yarn may be used to replace the fingering yarn held double.

Construction Note: The center panel of the blanket is worked first. Stitches are then picked up around the outside of the panel and the edging is knit in the round from the center out. The size of the finished throw can be adjusted by adding or subtracting repeats.

This pattern contains both charted and written instructions.

Yarn: 700 (1,882, 2,898) yards/640 (1,721, 2,650) meters of merino or wool worsted weight yarn that knits up to 3.75-4.5 sts/inch.

Skills Required: • Following charts • Knitting in the round • Picking up stitches • Decreases and yarn overs

What Is Being Made

The Interwoven Blanket is a knitted throw blanket available in three customizable sizes: Baby Blanket (30" x 30"), Medium Throw (43" x 56"), and Large Throw (54.5" x 68"). This versatile project allows crafters to adjust the finished dimensions by adding or subtracting pattern repeats, making it adaptable to individual preferences and yarn availability.

Design and Construction Technique

This blanket employs a distinctive two-stage construction method that creates visual interest and structural integrity. The center panel is knitted first as the foundation of the piece. Once the center panel is complete, stitches are picked up around the outer edges, and the blanket edging is then knitted in the round, working from the center outward. This approach allows for even distribution of stitches and produces clean, finished edges without the need for separate seaming.

Stitch Work and Visual Effects

The pattern features a marled effect created by holding two colors of yarn together throughout the center panel. The use of Bare Naked Wools 'Stone Soup Fingering' yarn held double produces excellent stitch definition while maintaining a lightweight, rustic aesthetic. The combination of yarn colors and the knitting technique creates an interwoven appearance that gives the blanket its distinctive character and visual depth.

Yarn and Materials

The Interwoven Blanket is designed for merino or wool worsted weight yarn that achieves a gauge of 3.75 to 4.5 stitches per inch. Yarn requirements vary by finished size:

  • Baby Blanket: 700 yards (640 meters)
  • Medium Throw: 1,882 yards (1,721 meters)
  • Large Throw: 2,898 yards (2,650 meters)

The pattern specifically recommends Bare Naked Wools 'Stone Soup Fingering' held double, which provides wonderful stitch definition without excessive weight—an important consideration for a blanket that will be comfortable and practical for regular use.

Tools and Equipment

This project requires a US #8/5.0 mm circular needle sized between 47 and 60 inches (119.38 to 152.40 cm) in length, or a needle size adjusted to obtain the correct gauge. The circular needle format is essential for the in-the-round edging construction method used in this pattern.

Skill Level

The Interwoven Blanket is rated as an intermediate difficulty project. This classification reflects the pattern's use of techniques such as picking up stitches, knitting in the round, and managing color work, making it suitable for knitters with foundational skills who are ready to expand their technical repertoire.
