The pattern comes with written knitting instructions for 4ply sweater 0 - 5 years and the Name chart pictured. Moniker name sweaters make great gifts for newborns. You can knit the back and sleeves before baby is born and finish the front once the name has been announced. The sweater can then be kept as a keepsake, hung in the child’s room, on the door or used to dress a toy. Not the name you wanted? No problem, leave a request on my site!
This chart can be used with any INSTARSIA pattern. All instarsia charts now have a colour count on them telling you how many squares of each colour make up the chart. This is helpful info if you want to uses the chart to make pixel crochet blankets, bead art or even quilting.
This is a children's sweater featuring an intarsia poppy design with a personalized moniker (name) chart. The garment is designed as a classic pullover sweater with shaping at the armholes and ribbed edging, available in multiple size options to accommodate different children's measurements.
The sweater employs several fundamental and intermediate knitting techniques:
The pattern uses standard abbreviations including k (knit), p (purl), p2tog (purl two together for decreasing), and st (stitch). The sweater is constructed in pieces – a back panel, front panel, and sleeves – which are later seamed together. The cast-on begins with 70 stitches on 2¾mm needles, with increases to 78, 86, 94, or 102 stitches depending on the selected size. The ribbed edging is worked over 7 rows in the 2x2 rib pattern before transitioning to stockinette stitch for the main body.
This pattern is designed for 4-ply yarn, a lightweight yarn weight that produces a fine, detailed fabric ideal for displaying the intarsia poppy design and moniker chart with clarity. Knitting needles in sizes 2¾mm and 3¼mm are required – the smaller needles create the ribbed edging for a snug fit, while the larger needles are used for the main stockinette stitch body. Multiple yarn colors are necessary to execute the intarsia technique, with at least one color for the base sweater and separate colors for the poppy design and personalized moniker lettering.
This pattern is rated as intermediate difficulty. While the basic stitches (knit, purl, and simple decreases) are fundamental, the intarsia colorwork technique requires careful attention to color changes and bobbin management. Knitters must be comfortable following a chart, managing multiple yarn colors simultaneously, and executing shaping decreases while maintaining pattern accuracy.
This is a downloadable PDF pattern provided by independent designer Instarsia, making it accessible for immediate use once purchased. The pattern includes multiple size options with corresponding stitch counts and row counts clearly indicated in brackets throughout the instructions.
