Product Description
The pattern comes with written knitting instructions for 4ply sweater 0 - 5 years and the Name chart pictured. Moniker name sweaters make great gifts for newborns. You can knit the back and sleeves before baby is born and finish the front once the name has been announced. The sweater can then be kept as a keepsake, hung in the child’s room, on the door or used to dress a toy. Not the name you wanted? No problem, leave a request on my site!
This chart can be used with any INSTARSIA pattern. All instarsia charts now have a colour count on them telling you how many squares of each colour make up the chart. This is helpful info if you want to uses the chart to make pixel crochet blankets, bead art or even quilting.
Intarsia Dale Moniker Chart Children's Sweater
What is Being Made
This is a children's sweater pattern featuring an intarsia design chart named "Dale Moniker." The garment is constructed as a classic pullover sweater with separate front and back pieces, designed to be knitted flat and seamed together. The pattern includes shaping for armholes and is available in multiple sizes to accommodate different children's measurements.
Knitting Techniques Used
The sweater employs several fundamental knitting techniques. Intarsia is the primary decorative technique, allowing for the incorporation of the Dale Moniker chart design using multiple yarn colors while maintaining a smooth, single-layer fabric. The pattern uses ribbed edging for structure and elasticity, particularly at the cuffs and hem. Armhole shaping is achieved through strategic decreases worked at the beginning of rows to create a fitted sleeve opening. The pattern also incorporates stitch holders to preserve stitches during construction, a standard technique for managing live stitches while working other sections of the garment.
Stitches Used
- Stockinette Stitch (st-st): The primary stitch throughout the body of the sweater, creating a smooth, flat fabric ideal for displaying the intarsia chart design
- 2x2 Ribbing (k2, p2): Used for the cuff and hem edges to provide elasticity and a finished appearance
- Knit and Purl (k, p): The foundational stitches used in combination to create the ribbed sections
- Purl Two Together (p2tog): A decrease stitch used for shaping the armholes and creating fitted shaping throughout the garment
Materials and Specifications
This pattern is designed for 4-ply yarn, a lightweight yarn weight that provides excellent stitch definition for displaying the intarsia chart clearly. The pattern requires 2¾mm needles for the main body work in stockinette stitch and 3¼mm needles for the ribbed sections. The use of different needle sizes is a standard technique to adjust fabric density and ensure the ribbed edging remains elastic while the body maintains appropriate drape and stitch definition for the intarsia design.
Pattern Difficulty and Construction
Rated as intermediate difficulty, this pattern is suitable for knitters with foundational skills who are ready to tackle color work. The intarsia technique requires careful attention to yarn management and chart reading, as multiple colors are worked into the design simultaneously. The pattern provides multiple size options with corresponding stitch counts and row counts, allowing for customization based on the child's measurements. Armhole shaping is worked over several rows with decreases at regular intervals, and the pattern includes detailed row-by-row instructions for both the back and front pieces to ensure proper fit and symmetry.
