Product Description
The pattern comes with written knitting instructions for 4ply sweater 0 - 5 years and the Name chart pictured. Moniker name sweaters make great gifts for newborns. You can knit the back and sleeves before baby is born and finish the front once the name has been announced. The sweater can then be kept as a keepsake, hung in the child’s room, on the door or used to dress a toy. Not the name you wanted? No problem, leave a request on my site!
This chart can be used with any INSTARSIA pattern. All instarsia charts now have a colour count on them telling you how many squares of each colour make up the chart. This is helpful info if you want to uses the chart to make pixel crochet blankets, bead art or even quilting.
Intarsia - Corry Moniker Chart Children's Sweater
Project Overview
This is a downloadable PDF knitting pattern for a children's sweater featuring intarsia colorwork design. The pattern is designed by Instarsia and offers multiple size options to accommodate different age ranges and measurements. The sweater is worked primarily in stockinette stitch with ribbed edging, making it suitable for intermediate-level knitters who have experience with basic colorwork techniques.
What Is Being Made
A fitted children's pullover sweater with a crew neckline and set-in armholes. The pattern includes a back, front, and sleeves, with the intarsia design (the Corry Moniker Chart) featured prominently on the front of the garment. The sweater is constructed using a traditional top-down or flat construction method with separate pieces that are seamed together.
Knitting Techniques Used
- Intarsia Colorwork: The primary design feature, allowing for large blocks of contrasting colors to be incorporated into the knitted fabric using the Corry Moniker Chart as a guide
- Stockinette Stitch: The main fabric throughout the sweater, creating a smooth, flat surface ideal for displaying colorwork
- Ribbed Edging: 2x2 rib (knit 2, purl 2) used for the cuffs, hem, and neckline to provide elasticity and a finished appearance
- Armhole Shaping: Decreases worked at the beginning of rows to create fitted armholes and proper sleeve cap shaping
- Seaming: Pieces are joined together using backstitch or mattress stitch techniques
Stitches Used
- Knit (K): Primary stitch for stockinette stitch fabric
- Purl (P): Used in ribbing and stockinette construction
- Purl 2 Together (P2tog): Decrease stitch used for shaping armholes and other fitted areas
- 2x2 Rib: Alternating knit and purl stitches in a repeating pattern for elastic edging
- Backstitch: Used for seaming finished pieces together
Materials and Specifications
The pattern calls for 4-ply yarn weight, which is a light, versatile weight suitable for children's garments. Needles required include 2¾mm needles for the main body and 3¼mm needles for the ribbed sections, with the smaller needle size creating a tighter gauge for the elastic edging. The pattern specifies that yarn amounts are based on average requirements when the specified tension and yarn type are used, making it essential to check gauge before beginning the project.
Pattern Structure
The pattern provides multiple size options, indicated by bracketed measurements throughout (for example, [25:29:29:33] represents different stitch counts for each size). The back piece begins with casting on 70 [78:86:94:102] stitches and working ribbed edging before transitioning to stockinette stitch. The front follows similar construction but incorporates the intarsia chart design. Armhole shaping is achieved by decreasing one stitch at each end of every row over 4 [4:5:5:6] rows, resulting in 55 [63:67:75:79] stitches. The pattern includes detailed row-by-row instructions with specific stitch placements and color changes indicated by the chart reference.
Skill Level
This pattern is rated as intermediate difficulty, requiring knitters to be comfortable with basic techniques and capable of reading and following an intarsia colorwork chart. Familiarity with shaping techniques, gauge adjustment, and seaming is recommended for successful completion of this project.
