Product Description

The remarkable thing about the Hollows Tunic is the Holes pattern that I chose. It is knitted and it’s very easy to work. The Tunic is worked in one piece, using circular needle, starting from the bottom of the Front and finishing at the bottom of the Back. The Tunic features a boat neckline, asymmetrical hemline, split sides and long sleeves. It is knitted in attractive Holes pattern with front shorter than back. The best thing - you don’t need to worry about any shaping. The Tunic needs just minimal seaming, when completed: sleeves and part of sides are seamed, leaving long side splits. Splits and asymmetrical hemline add visual interest to the bottom part. The neckline, hem, sides and cuffs are finished with seed stitch.

Hollows Tunic by Loose Loop Patterns

What is Being Made

The Hollows Tunic is a knitted dress-length garment designed by Loose Loop Patterns and photographed by Raimonda Bagdoniene. This intermediate-level knitting project creates a sophisticated tunic with a relaxed, asymmetrical silhouette. The finished piece features a boat neckline, long sleeves, and an asymmetrical hemline with dramatic split sides that add visual interest and movement to the design. The front of the tunic is shorter than the back, creating an elegant, modern aesthetic suitable for layering or wearing as a standalone piece.

Construction Method

The Hollows Tunic is worked in one piece using a circular needle, beginning at the bottom of the front and finishing at the bottom of the back. This seamless construction method minimizes finishing work and creates a cohesive garment with minimal seaming required. Once the main body is complete, only the sleeves and portions of the sides need to be seamed, while the long side splits are intentionally left open. This efficient construction approach reduces the overall complexity of assembly while maintaining structural integrity.

Stitch Techniques and Pattern Details

The defining feature of the Hollows Tunic is its distinctive Holes pattern, which is both visually striking and surprisingly straightforward to execute. The Holes pattern is knitted directly into the fabric and requires no complex shaping, making it accessible despite the tunic's intermediate difficulty rating. The pattern creates an open, textured appearance that adds depth and visual dimension to the garment.

Finishing details are accomplished with seed stitch, a fundamental yet elegant technique that provides structure and definition. Seed stitch is applied to the neckline, hem, sides, and cuffs, creating clean edges and a professional appearance throughout the garment.

Materials and Yarn Specifications

The Hollows Tunic is designed to be knitted using sport weight yarn, a lightweight yarn category that produces a fabric with excellent drape and fluidity. Sport weight yarn is ideal for creating garments with delicate stitch definition, making it particularly well-suited to showcasing the Holes pattern. The pattern requires circular needles for the seamless construction method, which allows for the efficient one-piece knitting approach described in the pattern instructions.

Design Features and Styling

The asymmetrical hemline and split sides are intentional design elements that elevate this tunic beyond a basic silhouette. These features provide visual interest at the garment's lower edge and create a contemporary, fashion-forward aesthetic. The boat neckline offers a classic, versatile neckline shape that flatters various body types and pairs easily with other wardrobe pieces. The combination of the shorter front and longer back creates a balanced proportion that works well for both casual and more refined styling options.

The tunic's minimal shaping requirements make it an excellent project for knitters seeking an intermediate-level challenge without the complexity of intricate increases and decreases. The straightforward construction allows knitters to focus on maintaining consistent tension and mastering the Holes pattern throughout the project.
