Hats, Wristwarmers and Striped Scarf in Sirdar Caboodle – Pattern 7841

This Sirdar pattern 7841 is a beginner-friendly knitting collection that brings together four stylish accessories in one downloadable PDF: a Slouchy Hat, a Pull On Hat, a pair of Wrist Warmers, and a Striped Scarf. All four designs are sized for an average adult woman and are worked in Sirdar Caboodle, a chunky, textured yarn that gives each piece its distinctive character. Because the yarn itself does much of the decorative work, these patterns are ideal for knitters who are new to the craft or looking for a satisfying, quick-to-complete project.

About Sirdar Caboodle Yarn

Sirdar Caboodle (F214) is a novelty-style yarn with a varied texture and colour profile that creates visual interest without requiring complex stitch patterns. Each design in this collection uses a specific shade: the Slouchy Hat uses shade 154, the Pull On Hat uses shade 152, the Wrist Warmers use shade 151, and the Striped Scarf uses three colours — shade 153 (Colour A), shade 154 (Colour B), and shade 151 (Colour C). Each design requires two 50g balls of the main shade, with the scarf requiring an additional ball each of Colour B and Colour C.

Needles and Tension

Two pairs of knitting needles are required across the collection: 6½mm (UK3 / USA 10.5) and 5½mm (UK5 / USA 9) needles. The stated tension is 23 stitches and 34 rows to 20cm (8 inches) over stocking stitch on 6½mm needles. As with all knitting patterns, checking your tension before beginning is essential — if you have fewer stitches than stated, switch to a thinner needle; if you have more, switch to a thicker needle. Because Caboodle is a textured novelty yarn, a small amount of plain yarn in a matching colour is also recommended for sewing up seams neatly.

The Slouchy Hat

The Slouchy Hat is designed to fit an average adult woman's head and is worked in Sirdar Caboodle shade 154. It is knitted flat on a pair of needles and then seamed. The construction begins with a 2x2 rib brim — a classic, stretchy ribbing pattern created by alternating two knit stitches and two purl stitches across each row. This ribbing provides a snug, comfortable fit around the head.

  • Stitches used: 2x2 rib (k2, p2), stocking stitch (alternating knit and purl rows)
  • Techniques: Flat knitting, decreasing (p2tog) for crown shaping, seaming
  • Construction: Cast on 70 stitches using the thumb method, work ribbed brim, then continue in stocking stitch to approximately 21cm before beginning crown decreases

After the ribbed brim is complete, the body of the hat is worked entirely in stocking stitch — the most fundamental of all knitting fabrics, created by knitting on right-side rows and purling on wrong-side rows. The crown is shaped using paired decreases (p2tog) to draw the stitches together at the top, creating the characteristic relaxed, slouchy silhouette. The hat is then seamed along the back edge using a plain matching yarn.

The Pull On Hat

The Pull On Hat is also sized for an average adult woman's head and is knitted in Sirdar Caboodle shade 152. Like the Slouchy Hat, it is a flat-knit design that is seamed after completion. The Pull On Hat offers a slightly more fitted, classic beanie-style shape compared to the slouchy version, making it a versatile everyday accessory.

  • Stitches used: 2x2 rib, stocking stitch
  • Techniques: Flat knitting, crown shaping with decreases, seaming
