All four Hogwarts House Uniform Socks are designed with similar elements: lace, cables, and slipped stitches. Each pattern is unique, based on the Hogwarts Professor who is the Head of House and the subject that Professor teaches.
Minerva McGonagall, the Transfiguration Professor and Deputy Headmistress, is Head of Griffindor House.
This design looks like a shield with the Griffindor Sword on it -- members of Griffindor are brave and determined (and also likely to act without considering the consequences). And only a true Griffindor can pull the sword from the Sorting Hat, originally Transfigured by Godric Griffindor.
