Knitting Techniques and Construction

Gridlines employs yoke construction, a popular top-down technique that begins with a cast-on at the neckline and increases outward to shape the shoulders and upper body. This method allows for easy customization of length and provides excellent fit control. The pattern incorporates magic loop as an optional technique for knitting sleeves in the round, though traditional double-pointed needles can be used as an alternative.

The sweater features garter pattern sections, which create a textured, reversible fabric through alternating knit rows. This stitch pattern adds visual interest and dimension to the finished garment. The design also includes colorwork elements achieved through the use of a main color (MC) and contrasting color (CC), allowing knitters to create a gridlines effect across the yoke and body.

Stitches Used

Needles and Notions

The pattern requires circular needles in two sizes: a 4 mm needle (or size needed to achieve gauge) for the initial cast-on and ribbing sections, and a 4.5 mm needle (or size needed to achieve gauge) for the main body and yoke.
