The Green-Day sweater is a short style knit with a wide V neck and short 3/4 sleeves. Sweater has a very wide bust circumference, so it fits well to wear on chilly summer days. Green-Day Sweater by Neringa Ruke
What is Being Made
The Green-Day sweater is a feminine, short-style knit garment featuring a wide V-neckline and short three-quarter length sleeves. This design is characterized by its relaxed, oversized fit with a wide bust circumference, making it ideal for layering on chilly summer days. The sweater showcases a striking two-color construction where wide bands of contrasting colors overlap to create a third color effect, resulting in a visually dynamic and modern aesthetic. Available in sizes XS through 4X, the Green-Day sweater is designed to be worn with 50-60cm (20-23 inches) of positive ease, offering a comfortable, free-movement silhouette perfect for casual wear at home or paired with high-waist jeans, other pants, or shorts.
Knitting Techniques and Construction
This intermediate-level knitting pattern employs several key techniques to achieve its distinctive appearance and structure. The V-neckline is worked in a Twisted rib stitch pattern and is integrated into the sweater body in one piece, eliminating the need for separate finishing work. The hem and cuffs are also finished with the same Twisted rib stitch pattern, providing visual consistency throughout the garment. The sleeves feature a distinctive balloon shape, created through strategic shaping techniques that give them a noticeably short and voluminous silhouette.
Stitches Used
- Twisted rib stitch – Used for the V-neckline, hem, and cuffs to create textured edges and structural definition
Materials
The Green-Day sweater is knitted using two yarns held together simultaneously. The pattern calls for Purl Soho Tussock, a luxury blend composed of 60% super fine kid mohair and 40% silk, creating a soft, lustrous fabric with excellent drape and a delicate hand-feel. This yarn combination is available in multiple colorways to achieve the signature overlapping color-band effect that defines the design.
