Product Description

My mother, also known as Granny to her grandchildren and GG to her great-grandchildren, had a school friend whose mum was from Shetland. Many years ago, Granny’s friend gave her a pair of fairisle fingerless mitts of unknown provenance, which are now wearing out. We think they were knitted in Shetland by a contract knitter working without a pattern. There are some interesting mistakes in one of the gloves and they are not quite identical in shape, although they are perfectly lovely.

I have reproduced these gloves in Uradale organic Shetland yarn in natural colours. If you are looking to try fairisle knitting then this would be a good starting project as it is quick to make. It is also good for using up odds and ends of yarn. You need around 100m of the main colour for full gloves, and smaller amounts of the other colours.

Fingerless gloves are useful for winter gardening. Or clipping the lead on the dog, making a cup of tea on the beach, or even playing the accordion!
