Product Description
Supplies: 10-15 grams of sport yarn in three colors (I used Phildar /Phil Cotton 3) and a 3mm hook (UK11) (US 10/3) Stitches in American terminology: slip stitch (sl st), chain space (ch-sp), skip (sk), single crochet (sc), half double crochet (hdc), double crochet (dc), (2) 3-chain picot (picot) Beads: I used cylindrical beads in 2 sizes, big seed beads, flower and other disc sequins. The amount you need depends on the effect you’d like to achieve. The upper top part uses most of the beads (about 5 grams). Other: tapestry needle for weaving ends, sewing needle and thread in the colors you choose for the cuff (preferably), a button or a bead for closure. Measurements: fits a 16-18 cm wrist circumference. Actual cuff measures 16.5 cm (6.49”) in width (without the loop) and 7.5cm down (2.95”) (at the lowest point of the lace edging).
Golden Hour Cuff by Maya Kuzman
Project Overview
The Golden Hour Cuff is an intermediate-level crochet mitten cuff designed by Maya Kuzman. This downloadable PDF pattern creates a decorative wrist cuff featuring beadwork and lace detailing, suitable for crafters with some crochet experience. The finished cuff measures 16.5 cm (6.49 inches) in width and 7.5 cm (2.95 inches) in depth at the lowest point of the lace edging, fitting wrists with a circumference of 16–18 cm.
Yarn and Materials
This project uses sport weight yarn in three coordinating colors, with approximately 10–15 grams total required. The designer used Phildar Phil Cotton 3 for the sample. A 3mm crochet hook (UK size 11 / US size 10/3) is needed for working the fabric.
Beadwork is a central design element of the Golden Hour Cuff. The pattern incorporates cylindrical beads in two sizes, big seed beads, flower sequins, and disc sequins. Approximately 5 grams of beads are concentrated in the upper top section, with the exact quantity depending on the desired visual effect. Additional supplies include a tapestry needle for weaving in yarn ends, a sewing needle with thread in matching colors, and a button or bead for the cuff closure.
Crochet Techniques and Stitches
The Golden Hour Cuff employs several fundamental and intermediate crochet techniques. The pattern uses the following stitches in American terminology:
- Slip stitch (sl st) – used for joining rounds and creating seamless transitions
- Chain (ch) and chain space (ch-sp) – foundation and structural elements
- Single crochet (sc) – a tight, dense stitch for shaping
- Half double crochet (hdc) – a medium-height stitch providing structure
- Double crochet (dc) – a taller stitch used throughout the main fabric
- 3-chain picot (picot) – a decorative element created with three-chain loops, appearing twice in the pattern
The cuff construction begins with a foundation chain of 42 stitches, with double crochet stitches worked into the fourth stitch from the hook to create a 40-stitch base. The pattern progresses through multiple rows, incorporating lace elements and beadwork integration. The combination of these stitches creates an openwork lace design that showcases the beads while maintaining structural integrity suitable for a wearable cuff.
Design Features
The Golden Hour Cuff is distinguished by its integration of beadwork with crochet lace. The upper section features the heaviest concentration of beads, creating visual interest and dimension. The lace edging at the lowest point of the cuff adds an elegant finishing detail. The cuff closes with a button or bead, providing both function and design continuity. The use of three yarn colors and varied bead types allows for personalization and creative color combinations while following the established pattern structure.
