What is Being Made

These are textural knitted placemats featuring a graphic patterning that resembles bands of geometric leaves combined with bold colorful stripes. The pattern includes two different sizes of placemat with two different colorways for each size, allowing crafters to choose between small and large dimensions and customize their color arrangements.

• Large size: Width 33cm (13 inches), Length 42cm (16.5 inches)

Knitting Techniques and Stitches

The placemats are constructed using a welted leaf pattern, which creates the distinctive textural and graphic appearance. This welted technique is described as easy to knit, making it an accessible introduction to patterned knitting. The pattern combines the leaf motif with bold colorful stripes worked throughout the design. Crafters have the flexibility to follow the suggested color arrangements or design their own custom stripe combinations, making this project adaptable to personal preferences and yarn stash.

Materials

The pattern calls for Rowan Creative Linen yarn, a blend of 50% cotton and 50% linen that provides both structure and drape suitable for table linens. Each ball contains 200 meters (219 yards) and weighs 100 grams (3.5 ounces). The yarn is classified as DK weight, a versatile medium weight that works well for detailed stitch definition.

For the small size set of four placemats, the yardage requirements include Natural #621 (1-2 balls), Stormy #635 (1 ball), Phlox #644 (1-2 balls), and Ochre #628 (1 ball). The large size follows a similar color structure with adjusted yardage for the larger dimensions.
