Geminio Neckwarmer by Sarahjanedesigns

What is Being Made

The Geminio Neckwarmer is a crocheted neck accessory designed to fit comfortably around the neck while stretching to pull over the head. This downloadable crochet pattern offers five size options ranging from Extra Small to Extra Large, accommodating neck circumferences from 12½ inches (31.5cm) to 15¾ inches (40cm). The finished neckwarmer measures 8¾ inches (22cm) in length, creating a versatile layering piece suitable for various head sizes and preferences.

Sizing and Fit Considerations

The Geminio Neckwarmer is engineered with stretch in mind, as the finished piece must expand to pull over the head. The Extra Small size comfortably fits heads measuring 19.5 inches (50cm) in circumference and can be worn with difficulty on heads up to 21.5 inches (55cm). Because different yarn fibers possess varying degrees of elasticity, the pattern recommends crocheting the first few rounds and testing the fit before completing the entire project. This approach ensures the best possible outcome regardless of yarn choice.

Crochet Techniques and Stitches

This intermediate-level crochet project utilizes fundamental crochet techniques suitable for crafters with some experience. While the specific stitches are not detailed in the provided pattern excerpt, the construction involves working in rounds to create the tubular neckwarmer shape. The pattern maintains a consistent gauge of 19 stitches and 20 rows per 4 inches, which is essential for achieving proper fit across all five size options.

Materials and Tools Required

  • Yarn: Cascade Heritage Silk fingering or 4-ply weight yarn, requiring 350 to 437 yards (315 to 400 meters) per neckwarmer. Alternative fingering or 4-ply weight yarns may be substituted provided they allow you to achieve the specified gauge.
  • Crochet Hook: 4.00mm size, equivalent to UK 8 or US G/6, or the size necessary to achieve correct tension with your chosen yarn.
  • Additional Tools: A yarn needle for weaving in ends upon completion.

Pattern Details

The Geminio Neckwarmer pattern is provided as a downloadable PDF by independent designer Sarah Jane Designs. This intermediate-difficulty project is ideal for crocheters who have mastered basic stitches and are ready to work with more refined gauge requirements and multiple size variations. The pattern's emphasis on testing fit during construction demonstrates thoughtful design that accounts for yarn variability and individual head measurements.
