Construction Method and Techniques

The Gemelli socks are worked top-down using a provisional cast-on, which creates a functional casing at the cuff. This casing serves a dual purpose: it allows for optional threading of 1/2" elastic through the channel to prevent socks from slipping during wear, while also providing a refined, finished appearance. The provisional cast-on technique requires waste yarn and a crochet hook to establish the initial stitches.

A distinctive feature of this pattern is the unconventional gusset decrease placement. Rather than positioning gusset decreases in the standard location, the designer has repositioned them for improved fit and aesthetic appeal. This yarn provides 400 yards (365 meters) per 100-gram skein, and one skein is sufficient to complete a pair of socks. The sample shown features the shade Pearl.

The recommended knitting gauge is 32 stitches per 4 inches in lace pattern. Achieving correct gauge is essential for proper fit, and knitters should select a needle size that produces this gauge with their chosen yarn.
