Product Description
Sometimes, you need a hero to rescue you.
When the corona crisis hit Germany in early 2020, our lives were pretty much turned upside down - as were those of many others, too.
All of a sudden, I had a lot more time to support our kids, mainly through home schooling, but we also read many books together. It took a few weeks until I finally realized I wanted to write one, too.
Futura is one of the heroines in my novel. A brave girl, cunning and fearless, who never hesitates to fight against evil.
This design is for her - and for all the other young women out there, walking their way.
Do you love the colorways as much as I do? Madelinetosh and Vrinda Yarn complement each other perfectly. Happy knitting!

Futura Shawl by Melanie Berg
What is Being Made
Futura is a knitted shawl designed by independent designer Melanie Berg. This design creates a finished shawl with a generous wingspan of 78.5 inches (200 cm) and a width of 39.5 inches (100 cm), making it a substantial wrap suitable for layering or wearing as a statement piece. The shawl is inspired by a heroine character from the designer's novel, embodying themes of courage and strength.
Knitting Techniques and Construction
The Futura shawl is worked flat, beginning from the upper right tip and progressing across the fabric. This construction method allows knitters to shape the shawl as they work, building the triangular or crescent silhouette characteristic of many modern shawl designs. The flat-worked approach provides flexibility for adjusting the final size if desired, as knitters can bind off when the shawl reaches their preferred dimensions.
Stitches Used
While specific stitch patterns are not detailed in the available pattern information, the design is classified as a lace-weight project, indicating the inclusion of openwork stitches and yarn-over techniques typical of lace knitting. These delicate stitches create an airy, elegant fabric that showcases the beautiful colorway of the yarn.
Yarn and Materials
Yarn: The sample is knitted using Vrinda Yarn Shakti DK, a fingering to sport-weight yarn composed of 100% Merino wool. The yarn is available in 100-gram skeins with approximately 273 yards (250 meters) per skein. The sample shown uses 3 skeins in the colorway "Off the Beaten Path," totaling 298 grams or 814 yards (745 meters) of yarn.
Complementary Yarn: The designer notes that Madelinetosh and Vrinda Yarn colorways pair beautifully together, offering knitters options for creating their own unique color combinations.
Needles: Specific needle size and type information is not provided in the available pattern details.
Difficulty Level
Futura is rated as a beginner-friendly knitting project, making it an excellent choice for knitters new to shawl construction or lace knitting techniques. The straightforward flat construction and beginner classification suggest that the pattern is accessible to those with basic knitting skills while still offering an impressive finished garment.
