Knitting instructions for FLAIR Cardigan Cardigan

This feminine cardigan FLAIR with shawl collar flatters through the softly falling peplums around your body. The delicate yarn weighs almost nothing when worn. The beautiful sweep of the jacket makes this piece guaranteed a favorite one in your wardrobe.

The jacket is cross knitted from 140 - 180 g yarn (size 34 to 44) and the cut can easily be adapted to individual wishes, sizes, longer/shorter sleeves, more width/length etc.. If you have any questions, I will be happy to help you. I have knitted the jacket in many different sizes for customers.

What is Being Made

The FLAIR Cardigan is a knitted cardigan featuring a slightly oversized peplum silhouette. This garment is designed as a versatile piece that accommodates multiple sizes and allows for personalized customization of both sleeve length and overall garment length. The cardigan is suitable for sizes 34–38 and 40–44, making it an adaptable design for various body types.

Construction Method and Techniques

This cardigan employs a distinctive crosswise knitting construction, meaning the garment is knitted horizontally rather than vertically. The knitting sequence progresses from the right front part through the right sleeve, across the back, through the left sleeve, and concludes at the left front part. This construction method offers significant advantages: it allows the slightly oversized fit to work across multiple sizes, and it simplifies customization of both arm length and overall cardigan length to match individual body measurements and style preferences.

Stitches and Knitting Details

While specific stitch patterns are detailed in the complete pattern instructions, the FLAIR Cardigan is constructed using fundamental knitting techniques appropriate for a beginner difficulty level. The crosswise construction method reduces complexity while maintaining design sophistication.

Materials and Tools Required

Yarn: The pattern calls for kidsilk yarn with a run length of 825–1,000 meters per 100 grams. Yarn requirements vary by size: approximately 140 grams for sizes 34–38, and 170 grams for sizes 40–44. Recommended yarn options include ROWAN KidSilk Haze (825 m / 100 g) and Lana Grossa Silkhair (840 m / 100 g), both composed of 70% mohair and 30% silk, creating a luxuriously soft and delicate fabric.

Needles and Tools: The pattern specifies circular needles in sizes 3.5–4.0 millimeters with a length of 60–80 centimeters, along with a crochet hook in size 4.5 millimeters for finishing details.

Yarn Weight Classification

This cardigan is crafted using 3-ply, cobweb, and lace-weight yarns, which are among the finest yarn weights available. These delicate yarns create an ethereal, lightweight fabric perfect for layering and elegant draping, particularly suited to the peplum cardigan's design aesthetic.
