Materials For this rabbit you’ll need worsted weight yarn and an E US/3.5 mm crochet hook. You’ll need two colours, murky brown (3/4 of a 100 yard skein) and camel (1/4). These quantities are estimates. For the eyes I’ve used 8 mm animal eyes. You will also need fibrefill and pellets for a bit of extra weight in the body (I use Hama beads) and a very dark brown embroidery yarn. Lopi colour numbers: 1400 and 1420.
Finse the Rabbit Crochet Pattern
What is Being Made
Finse is a charming crocheted rabbit toy designed by Sonja van der Wijk (Son's Popkes). This amigurumi-style stuffed animal is a beginner-friendly crochet project that creates a finished rabbit approximately 6.7 inches (17 cm) in sitting height when made with the recommended yarn. The pattern produces a soft, huggable toy suitable for children and collectors of handmade amigurumi animals.
Crochet Techniques Used
The Finse rabbit is constructed using spiral rounds, a fundamental amigurumi technique where you work continuously in rounds without joining or turning. This method creates a seamless, tubular fabric ideal for stuffed toy construction. The pattern employs color changes throughout the design, with some changes highlighted in color-coded instructions for clarity and others integrated into round descriptions. Color transitions are executed by changing yarn in the final loop of each stitch, ensuring the new color appears on the hook before beginning the next stitch.
Stitches and Construction Methods
While the pattern description does not enumerate every individual stitch, the construction relies on standard American crochet terminology and techniques typical of amigurumi toys. The use of spiral rounds indicates single crochet stitches are the primary building block, as this stitch is standard for creating tight, evenly-textured fabric in toy making. Stitch markers are recommended to track the beginning of each round as you work upward through the spiral, helping maintain consistent shaping and preventing mistakes.
Materials and Yarn Specifications
This pattern is designed for worsted weight yarn, classified as a medium (#4) yarn weight. The designer specifically recommends Istex Lètt lopi, a 100% wool yarn that provides the fuzzy texture ideal for creating a soft, appealing rabbit. The choice of fuzzy yarn is strongly encouraged by the designer, as it enhances the tactile quality and visual appeal of the finished toy. The final size of your rabbit will vary depending on your yarn choice and individual crochet tension, so experimentation with yarn weights and hook sizes may be necessary to achieve your desired finished dimensions.

Design Considerations
The finished toy's size is flexible and dependent on your yarn weight and crochet tension. The designer suggests experimenting with eye size recommendations, as different yarn weights and tension levels may require adjustments to maintain proper proportions. This flexibility allows crafters to customize Finse to their preferred finished size while maintaining the essential character and charm of the design.
