Product Description
My little boy had had his first no-parents visit with his grandparents. When it was time to fetch him home, my husband drove the car and I designed this cowl, and thus the Fetching My Boy cowl was created.
It would look lovely made in one colour, or with a main-colour body and contrasting edging. Try a plain or semi-solid body with a complementary multi-coloured edging. The cowl uses approximately 230 yards in total (or 170 yards of the main colour and 60 yards of the contrast border colour). Pattern gauge is 24 stitches and 40 rows to 4 inches of the diamond pattern of the body of the cowl. Achieving exact tension is not vital but may affect the finished size of your cowl and the yardage needed. Why not make Home Again mitts too, designed to match Fetching My Boy cowl.

Fetching My Boy Cowl by Kirsten McTeer
What is Being Made
The Fetching My Boy Cowl is a lightweight, versatile cowl designed by Kirsten McTeer. This knitted accessory measures 8 inches (20cm) in height and 20 inches (51cm) in circumference, making it an ideal layering piece for transitional seasons. The cowl is suitable for wear during autumn and spring, or as an extra layer of warmth when worn around the house. The design accommodates creative color choices—knitters can work the pattern in two contrasting colored yarns for visual interest or use a single color throughout for a more understated aesthetic.
Craft and Techniques
This is a knitting project worked in the round, making it an excellent choice for knitters expanding their skillset into circular knitting methods. The pattern is designed to be accessible across multiple ability levels, from enthusiastic beginners exploring in-the-round construction to advanced knitters seeking a quick and straightforward project. The intermediate difficulty rating reflects the balance between foundational techniques and the slightly more involved texture work required.
Stitches and Stitch Pattern
The Fetching My Boy Cowl features a diamond texture pattern as its primary stitch work. This textured pattern creates visual depth and interest while remaining achievable for intermediate-level knitters. The diamond motif is worked throughout the body of the cowl, providing both aesthetic appeal and subtle dimension to the finished piece.
