What is Being Made

This is a beginner-friendly knitted Eevee Pokémon toy or chocolate orange cover, designed by Andrew Lucas. The finished piece measures approximately 20 centimeters, making it an ideal size for a small plush toy or decorative cover. The pattern creates a three-dimensional figure with a distinct body and head structure characteristic of the Eevee character.

Techniques Used

The pattern employs fundamental knitting techniques suitable for beginners. Increasing stitches is used strategically to shape the toy, particularly in the body and head sections where stitches are increased in every stitch to rapidly expand the fabric width. Decreasing stitches through knit two together (K2tog) and purl two together (P2tog) methods creates the shaping needed to form the shoulders and head contours. The toy is constructed using the bind and tie method, where yarn ends are threaded through a tapestry needle and passed through live stitches on the knitting needle, then drawn up and secured to close sections of the toy.

Materials and Tools

The pattern requires 3.25mm knitting needles for all sections. Double knitting weight yarn in five colors creates the Eevee design: brown for the primary body color, dark brown for details and definition, beige for lighter accents, black for features such as eyes and nose, and white for highlights. Oddments (small leftover amounts) of each color are sufficient, making this an economical project. A small amount of polyester stuffing fills the toy to create dimension and structure. A tapestry needle is used for the bind and tie finishing method and for weaving in yarn ends.

Pattern Structure

The toy is constructed in two main sections. The body begins by casting on 25 stitches, then immediately increases in every stitch to create 50 stitches, establishing the widest part of the toy. Stocking stitch is worked for 23 rows to build the body length. The shoulders are formed by decreasing back to 25 stitches using knit two together. The head section begins with a fresh increase row that expands to 37 stitches, followed by 17 rows of stocking stitch to create the head height. Final decreasing rows shape the head to a point, reducing from 37 stitches to 25, then to 13 stitches, which are then bound off using the bind and tie method.

The techniques required—casting on, basic stitches, simple increases and decreases, and binding off—are foundational skills.
