Eclosion Knit Shawl by LA FONTAINE DES FAITS
What Is Being Made
Eclosion is a downloadable knitting pattern for a triangular shawl designed by Momo Pons of LA FONTAINE DES FAITS. This intermediate-level shawl project creates a finished piece measuring approximately 26 inches (66 cm) wide and 22.83 inches (58 cm) at the tip, making it an elegant accessory suitable for layering or wearing as a wrap.
Yarn and Materials
The pattern calls for 1 skein of 100% merino wool yarn, specifically from LA FONTAINE DES FAITS, containing 328 yards (300 meters). The merino wool fiber provides softness, breathability, and natural elasticity ideal for shawl construction. Knitters will need 4 mm (US 6) needles—either straight needles or circular needles measuring 80 cm in length—along with stitch markers and accessories for securing stitches during construction.
Knitting Techniques and Stitches
Eclosion employs several intermediate knitting techniques that create texture and shaping throughout the design:
- Fundamental stitches: Knit and purl stitches form the foundation of the pattern
- Twisted stitches: Knit through back of loop on right-side rows and purl through back of loop on wrong-side rows add subtle texture and definition
- Decreases: Knit 2 stitches together through back of loop on right-side rows and purl 2 stitches together through back of loop on wrong-side rows create shaping and lace elements
- Yarn overs: Jeté (yarn over) techniques introduce openwork and decorative holes characteristic of shawl patterns
- I-cord: An applied or integrated cord element adds a finished edge detail
The combination of twisted decreases, yarn overs, and i-cord finishing creates an elegant, structured shawl with visual interest and refined construction. Gauge is noted as not crucial for this model, offering flexibility for knitters working with the specified merino yarn and needle size.
Pattern Format and Difficulty
This is a downloadable PDF pattern suitable for intermediate knitters who have experience with basic shaping techniques and twisted stitches. The pattern is presented in both English and French, with clear abbreviations and instructions for international knitting audiences. The project is designed for personal use only under the copyright of Momo Pons and LA FONTAINE DES FAITS.
