Knitting Pattern to make a sleeveless hooded gilet with co-ordinating knee length dungarees . PDF instant download.
Knit this cute set ready for the holidays. Will fit 18-19 inch dolls.
The gilet is knitted in one piece from the bottom up in one complete piece, starting at the front hem and ending at the hood top. The only stitching is on the hood seams. The short dungarees are also easy to knit, I try to design my patterns to be quick and easy to knit so this is not a complicated process; little ones don't want to wait for their dolls new outfits!
Knitted in double knitting wool on 4.00 mm straight needles. Relatively easy pattern for a beginner or an experienced knitter. I've made the pattern as clear and easy as possible just in case any knitters feel unsure.
Uses approx 40 grams double knitting wool for the gilet, and approx 25 grams for the dungarees. An ideal project for using wool from your stash.
Tension 22 sts and 30 rows to 4" square. Uses number 4.00 mm needles, (6 USA).
This downloadable knitting pattern collection features two coordinating garments designed for 18" and 19" dolls. The set includes a hooded gilet and short dungarees, offering intermediate-level knitters an opportunity to create fashionable doll clothing using accessible double knitting yarn and standard needles.
The hooded gilet is constructed as a single piece worked from the bottom up to the armholes, with the hood knitted as an integral part of the main body. This efficient construction method minimizes seaming and creates a seamless integration between the body and hood.
Materials: Approximately 40 grams of double knitting (DK) weight wool, 4.00mm needles, one stitch marker, one button, and a stitch holder.
Stitches and Techniques: The pattern employs fundamental knitting stitches including knit stitch (K), purl stitch (P), and stocking stitch (alternating knit and purl rows). Construction techniques include yarn forward (yfwd) for creating openings, knit through front and back (kfb) for increasing stitches, and purl through front and back (pfb) for additional increases. Buttonholes (B/H) are incorporated into the design for fastening. Garter stitch (knitting every row) is used for edge details, creating a neat, textured border.
Construction Details: The gilet begins with a cast-on of 78 stitches. The initial 3 rows are worked in garter stitch for stability. The pattern then establishes a stockinette center with garter stitch edges (knitting the first and last 3 stitches of each row) for a polished finish. This combination continues until the work reaches 3.5 inches in length before dividing for armholes.
The short dungarees complement the hooded gilet as a coordinating piece within the collection.
Materials: Approximately 25 grams of double knitting (DK) weight wool, 4.00mm needles, and two buttons for closure.
Construction: The dungarees feature button fastenings, allowing for easy dressing and undressing of the doll.
Both garments are designed for intermediate knitters and utilize DK weight yarn, making them manageable projects that require familiarity with basic stitches and pattern reading. The use of standard 4.00mm needles ensures consistent gauge and fabric drape appropriate for 18" to 19" dolls.
The hooded gilet and dungarees represent practical fashion knits that teach essential garment construction principles on a smaller scale. Working with DK weight yarn and appropriately sized needles ensures that stitches remain visible and manageable, making this an ideal intermediate project for knitters looking to expand their skills beyond basic accessories. The pattern's emphasis on bottom-up construction and integrated hood design demonstrates efficient garment planning and execution.
