Product Description

Diggory Venn is a basic round yoke sweater with an easy, cute colorwork pattern around the lower body and sleeves. It is worked seamlessly from the top down. Starting with the neck ribbing, short rows are then worked back and forth to create a higher back neck. The yoke is then worked in the round to sleeve separation. Sleeve stitches are then placed on hold to work the body top down to the start of the body ribbing. The pocket lining is worked next and is attached to the lower body before ribbing is worked. Sleeves are worked top down to the cuffs last.

Original yarn is Tukuwool DK. An alternative is suggested below.

Diggory Venn Handknit Sweater by Isabell Kraemer

What is Being Made

Diggory Venn is a handknitted sweater design created by independent designer Isabell Kraemer. This intermediate-level knitting project produces a finished garment suitable for personal wear, with multiple size options available to accommodate different measurements and fit preferences.

Yarn and Materials

This pattern uses Tukuwool DK weight yarn, a versatile choice that works well for sweater construction. The design incorporates a three-color colorwork scheme using the following Tukuwool DK colors:

  • Auri as the main color (MC)
  • Repo as contrast color 1 (CC1)
  • Aava as contrast color 2 (CC2)

Yarn yardage requirements vary by size. The main color requires approximately 871 to 1,551 yards (796 to 1,418 meters) depending on the chosen size. Contrast color 1 requires 17 to 27 yards (15 to 25 meters), while contrast color 2 requires 4 to 8 yards (4 to 7 meters). The pattern is compatible with DK weight yarn and can also be worked in aran weight for those preferring a heavier yarn option.

Knitting Techniques

Diggory Venn employs several foundational knitting techniques that intermediate knitters will recognize and practice:

  • Backwards loop cast-on method – used for initiating stitches at the beginning of the project
  • Long tail cast-on – a versatile cast-on technique that creates an elastic edge suitable for sweater openings
  • Cable cast-on – another cast-on variation employed in the pattern construction
  • Color dominance – a colorwork technique that manages how multiple colors interact and appear in the finished fabric

The use of multiple cast-on methods throughout the pattern indicates thoughtful construction, with different cast-ons selected for specific sections based on the functional and aesthetic requirements of each area.

Stitches and Construction

While the full stitch-by-stitch breakdown is referenced in the complete pattern documentation, Diggory Venn incorporates standard knitting abbreviations and techniques typical of intermediate sweater patterns. The three-color colorwork element adds visual interest and requires attention to yarn management and stitch tension when working with multiple colors simultaneously.
