Dandelion Wish Sweater by Jennifer Wood
What is Being Made
Dandelion Wish is a knitted sweater designed by Jennifer Wood and available as a downloadable PDF pattern. This garment is crafted in sport weight yarn and offers a range of ten finished bust sizes from 33.5 inches to 60.25 inches (84 cm to 150.5 cm), accommodating a wide variety of body measurements. The smallest size is modeled with 1 inch of negative ease, creating a fitted silhouette.
Knitting Techniques and Construction
This intermediate-level knitting project employs several key techniques to create visual interest and structure. The pattern incorporates cable work, as evidenced by the inclusion of cable needle abbreviations in the pattern instructions. Stockinette Stitch forms the primary fabric base, providing a smooth, classic knitted surface. The sweater features a two-color design utilizing both a main color and a contrasting color yarn, allowing for colorwork elements throughout the design.
Stitches Used
The pattern utilizes fundamental knitting stitches and shaping techniques including:
- Knit (k) and purl (p) stitches as foundational elements
- Knit two stitches together (k2tog) for decreasing and shaping
- Stockinette Stitch as the primary fabric texture
- Cable techniques worked with a cable needle (cn) for textured cable patterns
Materials and Yarn Specifications
Dandelion Wish is designed to be worked in sport weight yarn, a lightweight yarn category ideal for creating garments with drape and breathability.
Main Color Yarn: Anzula Vera is a luxury blend containing 65% silk and 35% linen, offering a sophisticated sheen and natural fiber properties. Each 114-gram skein yields 365 yards (334 meters). Depending on the chosen size, the pattern requires between 2 and 4 skeins, totaling 565 to 1200 yards (515 to 1100 meters) of main color yarn. The recommended colorway is Clay.
Contrast Color Yarn: Debbie Bliss Baby Cashmerino provides the secondary color element, blending 55% Merino wool, 33% acrylic, and 12% cashmere goat fiber. Each 50-gram skein contains 137 yards (125 meters). The contrast color requirement ranges from 60 to 145 yards (55 to 135 meters) across all sizes, requiring just 1 skein. The suggested colorway is Butter.
The pattern specifies a gauge of 21 stitches and 28 rows over 4 inches (10 centimeters) in Stockinette Stitch, which is essential for achieving the correct finished measurements. Knitters will need appropriate needles for sport weight yarn and a cable needle for executing cable stitch patterns.
