Damenpulli mit langen Maschen – Free Knitting Pattern for a Women's Pullover in Schachenmayr Filara (Design 2170)

This free downloadable PDF knitting pattern (Design 2170) from Schachenmayr guides knitters through the construction of a women's pullover with long stitches — a cosy, textured top worked primarily in the round and finished with elegant shaped details. The pattern is available in five sizes: 32/34, 36/38, 40/42, 44/46, and 48/50, making it accessible to a wide range of knitters. All size-specific instructions are listed sequentially, separated by hyphens, so the pattern is easy to follow once you identify your size.

What Is Being Made

The finished project is a women's long-stitch pullover — a seamless-style, round-yoke-adjacent construction worked in the round from the hem up to the armholes, then divided and completed flat for the back and front sections. The design features side shaping for a flattering silhouette, a garter stitch ribbed cuff at the hem, and distinctive short-row border panels (Blenden) along the front edges, adding a polished, structured finish. The result is a wearable, stylish top suited to cooler seasons, with a rich texture provided by the long-stitch main pattern.

Construction and Structure

  • Bottom-up, in-the-round construction: The pullover begins at the hem and is knitted in rounds up to the armhole division point — approximately 29–31 cm in height depending on size.
  • Hem cuff: Cast on 64–70–76–82–88 stitches using a Milward circular needle, size 8, and work 4 rounds of garter stitch (alternating one round of purl and one round of knit in the round) to form the ribbed border.
  • Body shaping: Side increases are worked in round 8 and again 8 rounds later — a total of 4 stitches increased per increase round, worked as twisted stitches picked up from the horizontal thread on either side of marked stitches. This brings the total stitch count to 72–78–84–90–96 stitches.
  • Division at armholes: After approximately 24–26 rounds above the cuff, the work is divided. The first half of stitches forms the back, and the remaining stitches are placed on hold. At the division point, one selvedge stitch is added on each side.
  • Short-row border panels (Blenden): Along the first and last 3 stitches of the front opening (including selvedge stitches), a garter stitch border is maintained. Short rows are used to shape these border panels neatly — stitches are turned with a yarn-over, and on the following full row, the yarn-over is worked together with the next stitch to close the gap cleanly.

Techniques Used

  • Knitting in the round on circular needles for seamless body construction
  • Garter stitch in the round — achieved by alternating one round of purl stitches and one round of knit stitches
  • Garter stitch worked flat for the border panels
  • Long-stitch main pattern (Grundmuster) — the defining texture of the design, worked on the larger needle
  • Twisted increases (links verschränkt aus dem Querfaden) — stitches picked up from the bar between stitches and worked through the back loop to avoid holes, used for side shaping
  • Short rows with yarn-over turns (verkürzte Reihen mit Umschlag) — used to shape the front border panels without leaving gaps
  • Flat knitting for the upper body sections after the armhole division

Stitches Used

  • Kraus rechts (garter stitch): Used for the hem cuff and the front border panels; in the round this requires alternating purl and knit rounds
  • Grundmuster (long
