Product Description
During the Age of Discovery, Portugal established trading posts and colonies as far afield as China. The city of Macau — now famous for its casinos — was under Portuguese rule until 1999, when it was handed over to the People's Republic alongside Hong Kong.
Macau’s Portuguese heritage remains clearly visible in its architecture and is protected as a UNESCO World Heritage site—featuring, for instance, the Calçada Portuguesa in the old town’s main square, Largo do Senado. The wavy pattern of these mosaic walkways is reminiscent of the classic, widely used Mar Largo design, though it is narrower in scale. With this cushion, I want to welcome this pattern from Macau into my knitting family of Calçada Portuguesa designs—adding a touch of the exotic, so to speak.
