Product Description
This is a pattern for a cute pouch with a zip. Perfect for small things, pencils or make up. Super easy and can be worked in any colour ways, 2 coloured or plain. A gorgeous gift, and pretty fast worked. The pouch us worked in rounds like a Tube, the bottom sewn together. The pattern Shows how to add an inner lining in fabric, but knowledge of how to sew on a zip and how to sew together is expected. You could also work it without an inlay fabric and sew the zip direct on to the crochet pouch. The Crochet Terms are the US terms, but the measurements are metric.
My patterns are all in German and English, in US terms. My patterns are all created by myself which I really enjoy. It takes a while to create a pattern, knit it and write everything down but if there are any issues please do not hesitate to send me a message either here or on my Instagram account _Lovelyyarns.
Crochet Zip Pouch by Karin Burkart
What is Being Made
This pattern creates a cute and functional zip pouch designed for storing small items such as pencils, makeup, or other essentials. The finished pouch measures approximately 19 x 17 cm and features a zippered closure, making it both practical and decorative. The design is versatile and can be customized with various color combinations, from solid single colors to multi-colored patterns, making it an ideal handmade gift option.
Construction Technique
The pouch is constructed by working in rounds to form a tube shape, similar to creating a cylindrical structure. Once the crocheted tube reaches the desired length, the bottom is sewn together to close the base. The pattern includes instructions for adding an inner fabric lining to create a polished, finished interior. The zipper is then attached to the top opening of the pouch. Alternatively, crafters who prefer to skip the lining step can sew the zipper directly onto the crocheted fabric without adding a separate fabric layer.
Crochet Stitches and Abbreviations
This beginner-friendly pattern uses fundamental crochet stitches that are clearly defined in US crochet terminology:
- Slst (Slipstitch): Used for joining rounds and creating seamless transitions
- SC (Single Crochet): The primary stitch used throughout the pouch construction
- CH (Chain Stitch): Used to begin the pattern; does not count as a stitch in the pattern
Materials and Tools Required
The pattern specifies metric measurements and calls for the following materials:
- Crochet Hook: 3.5 mm size
- Yarn: DK weight cotton yarn in 3 colors, approximately 20 grams each (total 60 grams; 50 grams equals 125 meters)
- Zipper: 18 cm long
- Lining Fabric: Approximately 22 x 37 cm (optional but recommended for a professional finish)
- Additional Supplies: Sewing thread, sewing needle, and an iron for pressing fabric
Gauge and Pattern Notes
Achieving the correct gauge is essential for this project. The pattern specifies a gauge of 10 cm equals 24 single crochet stitches by 27 rows. Maintaining accurate gauge is critical because the zipper fit depends on the pouch dimensions—if the gauge is incorrect, the 18 cm zipper will not fit properly. The pattern begins with a chain of 90 stitches.
Skill Level
Designated as a beginner-level project, this pouch is ideal for crafters new to crochet or those looking for a quick, satisfying make. The pattern works up relatively quickly and uses only basic crochet stitches. However, the pattern assumes that crafters have basic sewing knowledge, including how to sew a zipper and how to sew fabric pieces together, or are willing to learn these skills.
