Product Description

BWAAAAAAAAAA HAAAAAAAAA HA! Imagine the look on Granny's face when this little surprise gift is opened at the Baby shower.

I call this an infinity round because it has infinite possibilities. Make it in any weight yarn or thread, as many or as few rounds as you like. How about a round shawl for a creepy wedding, a rug, or make it in worsted weight for a full sized afghan. The sample in baby yarn measured 36 inches in diameter using a size H or 5 mm hook. I used 1 ball of Bernat Big Ball Baby Sport Yarn 10-1/2 ounces (300 grams) 1,178 yards, and I had plenty left to do a whole Layette. The Doily measured 18 inches after blocking. It was made with # 10 crochet thread and a #3 size hook.

Creepy Skull Spider Web Baby Afghan or Doily Infinity Round

What Is Being Made

The Creepy Skull Spider Web Baby Afghan or Doily Infinity Round is a versatile crochet project designed by Spider Mambo that offers infinite possibilities for customization. This pattern creates a circular motif that can be adapted into multiple finished projects depending on yarn weight and the number of rounds completed. Crafters can make a delicate round doily, a cozy baby blanket, a full-sized afghan throw, a creepy-themed wedding shawl, or even a decorative rug. The infinity round concept means the pattern can be worked to any desired diameter by simply continuing additional rounds as preferred.

Project Versatility and Sizing

The pattern demonstrates remarkable flexibility in scale and application. The sample created in baby yarn produced a finished piece measuring 36 inches in diameter using a size H or 5 mm crochet hook. For those preferring delicate work, a cotton thread version in size #10 measured 18 inches in diameter after blocking. The pattern accommodates any yarn weight, allowing crafters to adjust their finished project size and weight accordingly. A single ball of Bernat Big Ball Baby Sport Yarn provided ample yardage to complete the sample with approximately 1,178 yards remaining from the 10.5-ounce ball.

Crochet Techniques Used

This crochet pattern employs fundamental techniques suitable for crafters with basic to intermediate skills. The design begins with a magic circle, a popular method for starting circular projects cleanly from the center. The pattern then progresses through successive rounds of increasing complexity, building outward to create the characteristic spider web and skull motif. The infinity round structure allows crafters to stop at any point, making it adaptable to different skill levels and time commitments.

Stitches and Abbreviations

The Creepy Skull Spider Web pattern utilizes essential crochet stitches written in American crochet terms:

  • Slip stitch (sl st): Used for joining rounds seamlessly
  • Chain stitch (ch): Creates the foundation and spacing throughout the pattern
  • Single crochet (sc): Provides structure and density in the center magic circle
  • Double crochet (dc): Forms the main body of the expanding rounds

The pattern notation includes standard abbreviations such as X for times (indicating repetition), Beg for beginning, Sp for space, and sk for skip. Round 2 demonstrates the basic stitch sequence with the instruction (Dc, ch 3) 7x, meaning crafters repeat the double crochet followed by a chain-3 space seven times around.

Materials and Tools

The pattern is designed to work with any yarn weight or thread, offering complete flexibility in material selection. The sample demonstrated in the pattern was created using Bernat Big Ball Baby Sport Yarn, a lightweight baby yarn ideal for delicate projects. For those preferring finer work, Cotton Thread #10 produces a more delicate doily suitable for heirloom pieces or decorative display. A size H or 5 mm crochet hook was used for the baby yarn sample, though hook size should be adjusted based on chosen yarn weight to achieve proper drape and finished dimensions. Gauge is noted as not important for this pattern, making it forgiving for crafters concerned about precise tension.

Pattern Notes

The designer, Spider Mambo, emphasizes that this pattern's true appeal lies in its adaptability. Crafters are encouraged to experiment with different yarn weights, colors, and round counts to achieve their desired finished project. The pattern is suitable for creating seasonal decorations with a spooky theme, making it particularly popular for Halloween-themed baby gifts or creepy wedding décor. Support and pattern assistance is available through the designer's contact email for any questions during the construction process.
