Yarn - This hat can be made using DK, worsted/Aran or chunky yarns, you can even use DK held double. The yarn chosen can dramatically change the style of the hat, eg a soft DK will give a slouchy openweave hat but an Aran/chunky weight will give a warm firm hat. Try them all !
Male hat - worsted/Aran or chunky yarns. Female hat - DK, worsted/Aran or chunky yarns. If you at making a male or female cowl to match then choose a soft yarn.
