Product Description
Connie the cat loves to spend the day sleeping… just sleeping. She’ll come to life in the evening and go out hunting mice and rats; then home in the early hours for a grooming (and a little play with her human’s best yarn) then… yawn… back to sleep… She is 9 inches tall (when made with recommended materials).
The pattern uses US terminology (UK terminology is also available as a separate listing) and can be downloaded after purchase. It is clear to follow with detailed instructions and lots of pictures for step by step making and assembly. There are also picture instructions for colour change, back loop only and invisible finish. I have made Connie using Paintbox Yarns Wool Mix Aran (Aran/worsted weight yarn) - details in pattern
The following stitches/techniques are used in this pattern: slip stitch, magic ring, single crochet, double crochet, increase, decrease (sc2tog), colour change, back loop only, invisible finish
Connie the Cat Amigurumi Crochet Pattern
What Is Being Made
Connie the Cat is a charming amigurumi toy designed by Little Green Bear. This adorable stuffed cat figure stands 9 inches tall when completed with the recommended materials. The pattern captures the personality of a lazy feline who spends her days sleeping, comes to life in the evening for hunting adventures, and enjoys playtime with yarn. This intermediate-level crochet project creates a finished plush toy perfect for cat lovers and amigurumi enthusiasts.
Crochet Techniques and Construction
This amigurumi pattern uses fundamental crochet techniques to create a three-dimensional stuffed toy. The construction involves working in the round to build the cat's body, head, and limbs, which are then assembled together. The pattern employs standard amigurumi shaping methods to achieve the characteristic rounded, compact form typical of stuffed crochet toys. Intermediate crocheters will find this project manageable as it builds on basic amigurumi skills while creating a recognizable and expressive finished piece.
Stitches Used
The pattern utilizes essential crochet stitches appropriate for amigurumi construction. The abbreviations provided follow US terminology, including standard abbreviations such as st (stitch) and ch (chain). These foundational stitches are combined throughout the pattern to create the various components of Connie the Cat, allowing crocheters to build dimensional shapes through increases, decreases, and consistent stitch placement.
Materials and Yarn Specifications
This pattern calls for Aran/worsted weight yarn, providing a medium-weight option ideal for creating a sturdy, well-defined toy. The designer recommends specific yarn choices for optimal results:
- Black: Paintbox Yarns Wool Mix Aran – Pure Black (801), 100g
- White: Paintbox Yarns Wool Mix Aran – Paper White (800), 100g
- Black DK or 4 ply weight yarn for whisker details, requiring only a small amount
Tools and Notions Required
Beyond yarn, completing this amigurumi project requires several essential supplies. A 4mm (Size G) crochet hook is specified for working with the aran weight yarn. Safety construction includes plastic safety eyes measuring 15mm to bring Connie's face to life. Additional supplies include polyester filling or stuffing for creating the plush interior, a tapestry or yarn needle for weaving in ends and assembling pieces, a stitch marker to track rounds, pins for positioning pieces before assembly, and a row counter to help track progress through the pattern.
