Product Description
The Chilean Coastal Range is a mountain range that runs from north to south along the Pacific coast of South America parallel to the Andean Mountains, extending from Morro de Arica in the north to Taitao Peninsula, where it ends at the Chile Triple Junction, in the south. The range has a strong influence on the climate of Chile since it produces a rain shadow to the east. The slippers are knitted flat for the heel and then joined in the round for the rest of the foot. Is an easy and quick pattern to knit, perfect stashbuster gift project and it comes in sizes for the whole family.
Construction Notes
Coastal Range is worked flat in the heel and then is joined in the round to knit the rest of the foot with a stranded motif. If the colorwork is to tight change to bigger needles. The foot is knitted in colorwork until the toes. Then you decrease sts at the toes and BO the sts with Kitchener stitch to finally sew the heel.

What is Being Made
The Coastal Range is a pair of knitted slippers inspired by the Chilean mountain range that runs along the Pacific coast of South America. These slippers are designed as a practical, wearable project that comes in sizes for the whole family, making them an ideal gift option or stashbuster project for knitters of all experience levels.
Construction Technique
The slippers are knitted using a hybrid construction method that combines flat knitting and circular knitting. The heel section is knitted flat to create a structured foundation, then the piece is joined in the round to complete the foot portion. This technique allows for efficient shaping and a comfortable fit while keeping the project straightforward for beginner knitters.
Stitches Used
The primary stitch pattern is Stranded Stockinette Stitch, which creates a smooth, dense fabric ideal for slippers. Stranded colorwork techniques add visual interest while maintaining the structural integrity needed for a wearable slipper. The stitch pattern is worked in the round for most of the foot, contributing to the seamless construction.
Yarn and Materials
- Yarn Weight: Aran weight (worsted weight) yarn
- Yardage: 90 to 110 meters of Aran weight yarn required
- Gauge: 18 stitches and 20 rounds = 4 inches (10 centimeters) in Stranded Stockinette Stitch, blocked
- Needles: Appropriate needles for Aran weight yarn (size and type not specified in provided content)
Difficulty Level
Rated as a beginner project, the Coastal Range slippers are designed to be easy and quick to knit. The straightforward construction and simple stitch patterns make this an excellent choice for newer knitters looking to build confidence while creating a practical, finished object. The pattern emphasizes the importance of knitting a gauge swatch before beginning to ensure proper fit and finished dimensions.
