Chrysler crown shawl

This elegant rectangular shawl pattern with a mesh appearance is inspired by the Art Deco design of the crown of the Chrysler Building in NYC. It is a charted lace design, with lace knitting on every other row.

The pattern starts in the middle with a provisional cast on resulting in a symmetrical shawl with a near-invisible join. You could also start with a garter border and knit from one end to the other. Alternatively you could knit from the ends in and graft together if you want to reverse the motif direction!

The pattern has 5 pages of advice, pictures, layout, and instructions and 2 pages of charts.

ERRATA: The “special” single decrease stitches have the lifted stitch on the wrong side.

The “special” ssk: slip 1 knitwise, lift the bar between the stitches on the needles and place it on the right needle, knit the two stitches on the right needle together.

The “special” k2tog: lift the bar between the stitches on the needles and place it on the left needle, then k2tog.
