Product Description
This super cute knitted Christmas bauble was designed to complement to Christmas Glamour pattern range. This year I have add this bauble and two mini baubles to the range.
The bauble is worked in the round with a small section in the centre which is worked from a chart using stranded knitting. If you are new to stranded knitting this is a great first project as there is so little of it to do!
I have as always included comprehensive how to notes and video links for the techniques used, to get you started or provide a refresher should you need one.
Please check out the other patterns in this range, for a truly unique Christmas tree.
Happy Knitting,

Christmas Glamour Bauble Pattern by Jane Burns
Project Overview
The Christmas Glamour Bauble is a knitted decorative ornament designed by Jane Burns, perfect for adding a handmade touch to your holiday décor. This intermediate-level knitting project creates a festive bauble measuring 18cm in circumference, combining elegant colorwork with straightforward knitting techniques to achieve a sophisticated finished piece.
What Is Being Made
This pattern produces a three-dimensional knitted Christmas bauble—a decorative sphere suitable for hanging on a Christmas tree or displaying as part of holiday decorations. The bauble is worked in the round using stranded colorwork, creating a visually striking design with contrasting colors that gives it a glamorous appearance fitting for festive celebrations.
Knitting Techniques Used
The Christmas Glamour Bauble employs several key knitting techniques that make it accessible yet interesting for intermediate crafters:
- Working in the round: The entire bauble is constructed using circular knitting, eliminating the need for seaming and creating seamless, professional-looking results.
- Stranded colorwork: Two yarn colors are carried across rows to create the decorative pattern, a technique that adds visual interest while remaining manageable for intermediate knitters.
- Increases and decreases: Strategic shaping is achieved through various increase and decrease methods to form the three-dimensional bauble shape.
- Stocking stitch: The primary stitch pattern used throughout, creating a smooth, classic fabric base.
Stitches and Abbreviations
The pattern utilizes fundamental knitting stitches and abbreviations to construct the bauble:
- K2tog (knit two together): A decrease stitch that reduces stitch count by combining two stitches into one, used for shaping the bauble.
- M1 (make one): An increase stitch created by picking up the horizontal strand between stitches on the needles, adding new stitches for expansion.
- Kfb (knit into front and back): Another increase method that creates an extra stitch by working into both the front and back loops of a single stitch.
- Stocking stitch: The foundational stitch pattern, alternating knit and purl rows when working flat, or continuous knit rounds when working in the round.
Materials Required
The Christmas Glamour Bauble pattern calls for specific materials to achieve its elegant appearance:
- Yarn: Wendy Merino four ply yarn in two colorways—shade 2376 Silver (one 50g ball) and shade 2372 Mulberry (one 50g ball). The four ply weight provides excellent stitch definition for the colorwork pattern.
- Needles: 2.50mm double pointed needles, sized appropriately for the four ply yarn to achieve the specified tension.
- Additional supplies: A darning needle for weaving in yarn ends and securing the colorwork, and toy stuffing to fill the bauble and give it dimension and weight.
Tension and Sizing
Achieving the correct tension is essential for this project. The pattern specifies a tension of 30 stitches by 42 rows over a 10cm by 10cm swatch, worked using 2.50mm needles in stocking stitch. Maintaining this tension ensures the finished bauble reaches its intended size of 18cm circumference, creating a properly proportioned ornament.
Difficulty Level
Classified as an intermediate project, the Christmas Glamour Bauble is suitable for knitters with basic skills who are ready to expand their abilities. While the stranded colorwork technique may be new to some, the pattern's straightforward construction and the designer's note that it is "deceptively easy to make" confirm that intermediate knitters can successfully complete this festive decoration with confidence.
