Product Description

A lovely modern throw with an aztec feel.

This blanket was made with Stylecraft Special DK using Cream x11, Pale Rose x2, Boysenberry x3, Dandelion x1, Petrol x1. While I used only 1 Dandelion and 1 Petrol there wasn't very much left over, so if you crochet loosely I would suggest you get 2 of each.

Centrepoint Corner to Corner Throw by What Christine Made

Project Overview

The Centrepoint is a corner-to-corner crochet throw blanket designed by What Christine Made. This intermediate-level project creates a finished blanket through a distinctive corner-to-corner construction method, building the piece from one corner progressively outward. The pattern combines written instructions with charted guidance, offering flexibility for crocheters who prefer either method.

Construction Technique

This throw utilizes the corner-to-corner crochet technique, a method that builds the blanket by working diagonal rows that expand outward from a starting corner. The construction creates two distinct corners during the project: the first corner forms at the completion of row 102, where the final block of that row aligns on top of the last block from the previous row. The second corner is established by slip stitching across the top of block 119, after which the first block of the subsequent row is positioned beside the block from the previous row.

This technique requires careful attention to block placement and row tracking. The pattern recommends using a row counter or printing the pattern and marking each completed row to maintain your position throughout the 102+ row construction.

Stitches and Stitch Techniques

The Centrepoint employs fundamental crochet stitches within its corner-to-corner structure. Slip stitches are used at key construction points, particularly when forming the second corner by slip stitching across the top of block 119. The pattern uses block-based construction, where repeated stitch blocks form the building units of the throw.

Proper yarn management is essential to this project. When carrying yarn or adding new colors, all visible yarn carries and tails must remain on the wrong side (WS) of the project to maintain a neat appearance on the finished blanket. The pattern emphasizes leaving 6-8 inch tails when beginning and fastening off, with ends woven in securely in the opposite direction multiple times for durability.

Materials and Yarn Weight

The Centrepoint is designed to work with DK weight yarn, a lightweight yarn category that creates a fabric with good drape and definition suitable for throw blankets. The pattern example uses limited yardage per color—the designer used only 1 ball each of Dandelion and Petrol colorways with minimal yarn remaining, indicating efficient yardage planning for this project size.

Pattern Format and Skill Level

This is an intermediate-level crochet pattern available as a downloadable PDF. The pattern accommodates different learning preferences by providing both written row-by-row instructions and a chart format. The intermediate difficulty reflects the corner-to-corner construction method, which requires understanding block placement, color work management, and precise row counting rather than advanced stitch techniques.

Successful completion of this project benefits from organizational tools and attention to detail, making it suitable for crocheters with foundational skills who are ready to tackle structured, multi-row projects with color changes.
