What Is Being Made

The Stuffed Bunny

The main project is a soft, stuffed toy bunny knitted entirely in the round using double-pointed needles or a circular needle with the magic loop method. The bunny is worked as a three-dimensional form and finished with embroidered and button details to bring the character to life. At 17cm tall, it makes a sweet handmade gift or decorative piece.

The Miniature Jacket

Accompanying the bunny is a small knitted jacket, worked flat on a pair of straight needles. This tiny garment adds personality and charm to the finished toy, and introduces knitters to the contrast between working flat and working in the round within a single pattern.

Yarn and Materials

The pattern uses Deramores Studio DK acrylic yarn in two colourways:

• Yarn A: Pearl – 1 x 100g ball (used for the bunny body)
• Yarn B: Light Pink – 1 x 100g ball (used for contrast details and the jacket)

A small amount of Deramores Studio DK in Oatmeal is also required for embroidering the bunny's nose. Using a single DK-weight acrylic yarn throughout ensures consistent tension and easy care of the finished toy.

Needles and Tools

• For the bunny: A set of 3.5mm double-pointed needles (DPNs), minimum length 10cm, or a circular needle suitable for the magic loop technique
• For the jacket: A pair of 3.5mm straight needles, minimum length 20cm
• Extras: 50g toy stuffing, a stitch marker, a darning or tapestry needle, two 9mm domed black buttons (eyes), one 8mm diameter 2-hole pink button (jacket fastening), and a ready-made fluffy white pompom (3cm diameter) for the tail

Tension

The recommended tension is 22 stitches x 28 rows over a 10cm x 10cm square worked in stockinette stitch on 3.5mm needles. Achieving the correct tension is particularly important in toy knitting, as it affects the finished size of the bunny and ensures the stuffing does not show through gaps in the fabric.

Techniques and Stitches Used

Knitting in the Round

The bunny body is knitted in the round using either double-pointed needles or the magic loop method with a circular needle. Knitting in the round creates a seamless, tubular fabric that is ideal for three-dimensional toy construction, as it reduces the number of seams required and produces a neater finish.

Knitting Flat

The jacket is worked flat (back and forth) on straight needles, introducing knitters to the difference between in-the-round and flat construction within a single project.
