Product Description
This pattern was created as I always call my daughter "Bunny Bee" because she bounces and zooms about the house like such a cutie. So this is more a special pattern for me and honestly just for fun. I used the 24 peg 1/2" gauge loom for this project and barely used 70 yards of a bulky yarn. It is a fairly simple pattern uses many basic techniques and has a full video tutorial for assistance in making the pattern. If you run into questions please feel free to ask me.
Bunny Bee Knitted Toy by Scarlett Royale
Project Overview
Bunny Bee is an intermediate-level knitted toy design created by independent designer Scarlett Royale. This downloadable PDF pattern guides crafters through creating a charming stuffed animal using loom knitting techniques with chunky yarn weight materials.
What Is Being Made
The Bunny Bee is a soft, cuddly toy that combines two beloved animal themes into one whimsical design. This project is ideal for crafters looking to expand their toy-making skills with a fun, intermediate-difficulty pattern that produces a finished plush suitable for children or as decorative pieces.
Loom and Equipment Required
This pattern uses a 24 peg loom as the primary crafting tool. Additional equipment includes a looming hook for manipulating stitches, stitch markers for tracking progress, and a crafter's needle for finishing work. The 24-peg loom size is well-suited for creating toys with appropriate proportions and density.
Yarn and Materials
The Bunny Bee pattern calls for chunky weight yarn in two colors: yellow yarn and black yarn. The yarn selection should match the gauge specifications of the 24 peg loom to ensure proper stitch formation and finished dimensions. Chunky yarn weight creates quick, satisfying progress and produces a sturdy, huggable finished toy.
Loom Knitting Techniques and Stitches
This pattern employs several fundamental loom knitting techniques essential for toy construction:
- Cast On (CO): The foundation technique using E-Wrapping, where yarn is wrapped around each peg twice before the bottom loop is tossed over the top loop to secure the initial stitches on the loom.
- Draw String Cast On (DSCO): An alternative cast-on method where working yarn is woven back and forth between alternating pegs, creating a flexible foundation edge ideal for toy seaming.
- Knitting and Loop Manipulation: Core loom knitting involves working loops on pegs, manipulating them with the looming hook, and transferring stitches between pegs to create fabric.
- Decreasing (D): A shaping technique used to reduce stitch count by placing stitches onto adjacent working pegs, with directional arrows indicating the decrease direction for proper shaping of toy components like heads and limbs.
- Bring Original Loops Back (BOLB): A recovery technique for finding un-worked pegs, following bridges back to stitches, and pulling them back onto pegs to maintain continuity in the fabric.
- Bind Off (BO): The finishing technique that secures all remaining stitches and completes the knitted piece. This involves a systematic process of knitting pairs of pegs, transferring loops, and tossing bottom loops over top loops until no stitches remain on the loom.
Difficulty Level and Skill Development
Rated as intermediate difficulty, the Bunny Bee pattern assumes crafters have basic familiarity with loom knitting fundamentals. The pattern reinforces essential techniques including cast-on methods, stitch transfers, decreasing for shaping, and bind-off finishing. Completing this project strengthens a crafter's ability to execute precise stitch manipulation and understand how shaping techniques create dimensional toy forms.
Pattern Format and Resources
This pattern is provided as a downloadable PDF, making it accessible for immediate use. The designer has included video links to supplement written instructions, allowing crafters to visualize techniques and follow along with step-by-step demonstrations for enhanced learning and accuracy.
