Product Description

It's here!!! So this is a super fun and very quick make! This pattern has been designed for you to be in complete control of how yours works up. I have given you thr backbone, and you can edit it to your perfect fit, as well after all none of us are the same shape or size, and some love baggy, some prefer a more fitted garment.

Another great stash buster.. and you'll need under 100g of DK per arm.

there is also the opportunity to make your neckband into a rollneck!

This is a great make for those looking for a warm but none bulky item to wear under dungarees, or over collared dresses/shirts. I have also been told it would be highly favoured for breastfeeding mums!

Either way... enjoy making yours.

Bodiless Jumper by Sam Hermes

What is Being Made

The Bodiless Jumper is a crochet pattern designed by Sam Hermes that creates sleeves without a body component. This unique construction allows crafters to customize sleeve length independently, making it a versatile project for those looking to add sleeve elements to existing garments or create standalone arm pieces. The pattern is presented as a downloadable PDF format, making it accessible for immediate use.

Craft and Technique Overview

This project uses crochet as the primary construction method. Crochet is a fiber art technique that uses a single hook to create interlocking loops of yarn, building fabric from the ground up. The Bodiless Jumper employs several intermediate-level crochet techniques to achieve its structure and texture, making it suitable for beginner level crocheters who have basic stitch knowledge.

Stitches Used

The pattern incorporates a variety of crochet stitches to create its finished fabric:

  • Chain (Ch) – The foundation stitch used to create the base of the work
  • Treble Crochet (Tr) – A tall stitch that creates an open, drape-friendly fabric
  • Treble 2 Together (T2tog) – A decrease technique that reduces stitch count by working two trebles together as one
  • Front Post Treble (Fptr) – A textured stitch made around the front of the stitch below, creating a raised effect at the front of the work
  • Back Post Treble (Bptr) – A textured stitch made around the back of the stitch below, creating a raised effect at the back of the work
  • Slip Stitch (Sl St) – Used for joining rounds and creating seamless transitions

Materials Required

The Bodiless Jumper pattern calls for the following materials:

  • Yarn: Any DK weight yarn (also known as light worsted or #3 weight). DK yarn is a medium-weight option that works well for garments requiring drape and flexibility
  • Crochet Hook: 4mm size (UK 8, US G/6). The pattern notes that crafters may go up or down a hook size depending on personal preference, though this may slightly alter the yarn amounts needed
  • Notions: Stitch marker for tracking position in rounds, yarn needle for weaving in ends, and scissors for cutting yarn

Tension and Sizing

The pattern specifies a tension of 16 stitches by 9 rows equals 10x10 centimeters. This measurement is crucial for achieving the correct finished dimensions. Since the Bodiless Jumper consists only of sleeves, sizing flexibility is primarily determined by sleeve length, which can be adjusted according to individual preference and requirements. The downloadable PDF format allows crafters to modify the pattern to their specific measurements.

Pattern Features

The pattern uses clear abbreviations and notation systems to guide crocheters through the construction process. The use of post stitches (front and back post trebles) suggests the design incorporates textured ribbing or decorative banding, which is typical for sleeve cuffs and edges. The inclusion of decrease techniques indicates shaping elements that help the sleeves conform to the arm.
