Product Description
This pattern comes with graphs and full written instructions for each number. There are two options for the back of the bags, fabric or crocheted. The fabric back option has a full photo tutorial.
No sewing machine or experience needed. Materials: • Dk/8ply/light weight cotton yarn in different colours. I used about 8 different shades. Scrap yarn will work! • Crochet Hook-4mm/G • Tapestry Needle • For fabric backing you’ll need 24 or 25 pieces of fabric at least 10 x 15cm • Sewing pins (optional) • A hot iron • Embroidery cotton or 4ply cotton for sewing (you can split your 8ply cotton in half for this)
I have helpful video tutorials for this pattern on my IGTV @littlegoldennook These will help you with working contrasting coloured bobbles, and assembly of your bags.
Bobble Advent Bags by Little Golden Nook
What Is Being Made
The Bobble Advent Bags pattern provides instructions for creating a complete set of 25 numbered decorative crochet bags, designed as an advent calendar project. Each bag is individually numbered from 1 to 25, making this an ideal seasonal decoration and gift-giving solution. The bags are small enough to hold treats or small gifts, with dimensions suitable for hanging or displaying throughout the holiday season.
Craft and Primary Technique
This project is created using crochet as the primary craft method. The pattern is written in US crochet terminology and includes detailed video tutorials available on the designer's Instagram account (@littlegoldennook) for additional technique support. The design incorporates color work and numbered motifs, making it an engaging project for crafters looking to practice their skills across multiple small pieces.
Stitches and Techniques Used
The pattern utilizes fundamental crochet stitches and color-work techniques suitable for beginners:
- Chain (ch) – Used for foundation and structural elements
- Single Crochet (sc) – The primary stitch for constructing the bag pieces
- Color Work Methods:
- Catch – Crocheting over the contrast color yarn to secure it within your work
- Float – Carrying the contrast color yarn behind your work as you crochet
- Drop – Dropping the contrast color for the remainder of a row or section
The pattern includes simple charts for all 25 numbers to provide visual guidance alongside written instructions. This combination of charted and written instructions helps crafters visualize number placement and color changes throughout the project.
Materials and Yarn Specifications
The Bobble Advent Bags pattern is designed to work with DK weight (8ply) or light weight cotton yarn. The designer used approximately 8 different color shades to create visual variety across the 25 bags. A 4mm (size G) crochet hook is recommended for this yarn weight.
Additional materials include a tapestry needle for weaving in ends. The pattern offers flexibility for finishing options: you may create contrasting colored crocheted back pieces using the same yarn, or alternatively, use fabric backing pieces measuring at least 10 x 15cm (24 or 25 pieces total). For fabric-backed versions, you will need sewing pins, a hot iron, and embroidery cotton or 4ply cotton for sewing. The designer notes that you can split your 8ply cotton yarn in half for sewing purposes if preferred.
Difficulty Level
This pattern is rated as beginner-friendly, making it accessible to new crocheters while still offering enough visual interest and color work to keep experienced crafters engaged. The straightforward stitches combined with simple numbered charts make this an excellent project for building confidence in basic crochet skills and color-work techniques.
