Product Description
Bindi is a cute little raglan-sleeved baby cardigan that features two-coloured tuck stitch borders. Two versions of the pattern are included, one with long sleeves and one with short sleeves. Both sleeve lengths include tuck stitch patterned edges.
Bindi is a seamless knit worked from the bottom up in sport or a light DK weight yarn. It is suitable for cotton for a light summer-weight cardigan. All parts of the cardigan are knitted flat.
Instructions are fully written out as well as charted and are given for five sizes (newborn - 3 months, 3 – 6 months, 6 – 12 months, 12 – 18 months and 18 months – 2 years). A detailed schematic diagram is included.
The pattern is for sport weight yarn (either wool or cotton). The long-sleeved version requires 2 [2, 3, 3, 4] balls of the main colour and 1 ball of the contrast. The short-sleeved version uses 2 [2, 2, 3, 3] balls of the main colour and 1 ball of the contrasting colour. (Based on 50g/125m balls)

What Is Being Made
The Bindi Cardigan BJ30 is a cute, raglan-sleeved baby cardigan designed by Sharyn Armstrong of Baby Jumbuck Knits. This seamless knit cardigan is worked from the bottom up and is suitable for babies from newborn through 2 years old. The pattern includes two distinct versions: one with long sleeves and one with short sleeves, allowing makers to choose the appropriate weight and style for different seasons. Both sleeve length options feature decorative two-coloured tuck stitch borders that add visual interest and texture to the finished garment.

Knitting Techniques
The Bindi Cardigan is constructed as a seamless knit, meaning it is worked in the round without seaming required at the end. This construction method creates a smooth, professional finish and reduces finishing work. The cardigan is worked from the bottom up, a popular top-down alternative that allows makers to begin with the body and progress to the sleeves. The raglan sleeve style—characterized by diagonal seam lines running from the underarm to the neckline—provides excellent mobility and a comfortable fit for babies.
The defining design feature of the Bindi Cardigan is the two-coloured tuck stitch borders that frame the edges of both long and short sleeve versions. Tuck stitches create a subtle, textured effect by holding loops of yarn on the needle without working them, resulting in a layered, dimensional appearance. This technique requires careful attention to stitch placement and yarn management but adds sophisticated visual detail to a simple cardigan silhouette.
Stitches and Pattern Details
While the complete stitch breakdown is not detailed in the available pattern information, the Bindi Cardigan employs tuck stitch techniques as a primary decorative element. Instructions are provided in two formats: fully written-out instructions and charted instructions, accommodating knitters who prefer to follow row-by-row text directions as well as those who work from visual stitch charts. This dual-format approach makes the pattern accessible to knitters with different reading preferences and experience levels.
Yarn and Materials
The Bindi Cardigan is designed to be worked in sport or light DK weight yarn, offering flexibility in yarn selection. The pattern is particularly suitable for cotton yarns, which create a light, breathable summer-weight cardigan ideal for warm weather wear. The choice of yarn weight and fiber content directly impacts the drape, weight, and seasonality of the finished garment, allowing makers to customize the cardigan for their climate and intended use.
Difficulty Level
Rated as an intermediate knitting project, the Bindi Cardigan requires solid foundational knitting skills. The seamless construction, raglan shaping, and tuck stitch technique all demand intermediate-level competency. Knitters should be comfortable with working in the round, managing increases and decreases for shaping, and following both written and charted instructions before attempting this pattern.
