Product Description
This is a crochet pattern for a cardigan with an attractive patterned panel. It is made in double knit yarn and all shaping is done on the treble rows. I wanted a cardigan for myself which wasn't too fancy as in an all over pattern so came up with this idea. It looks lovely when made up and I am very pleased with it.
It is written in English using UK Terminology.
Attractive Patterned Panel Lady's Cardigan – Crochet Pattern
What is Being Made
This is a lady's V-neck cardigan designed as a downloadable crochet pattern from UK Craft Store. The cardigan features an attractive patterned panel design and is fastened with 6 buttons. The pattern is available in seven size options, ranging from bust measurements of 81cm (32 inches) to 112cm (44 inches), making it suitable for a wide range of body sizes. The cardigan offers adjustable sleeve length, allowing customization for individual preferences.
Craft and Techniques Used
This project is created using the crochet technique with UK terminology. The pattern employs a structured approach using two different crochet hook sizes to achieve distinct tension requirements for different sections of the garment. The patterned panel design adds visual interest and texture variation throughout the cardigan construction. The V-neck shaping is integrated into the pattern structure, creating a flattering neckline suitable for layering or wearing as a standalone piece.
Stitches and Stitch Techniques
The primary stitches used in this pattern include:
- Trebles – used for the main fabric construction, providing a lightweight drape suitable for double knitting weight yarn
- Double crochet – employed for shaping, edging, and structural elements
- Chain stitches – used for foundation rows and pattern repeats
- Slip stitches – utilized for joining rounds and finishing edges
- Increases and decreases – incorporated throughout for shaping the armholes, neckline, and waist
The pattern notation emphasizes that stitch tension is more important than row tension, allowing crafters some flexibility in row gauge while maintaining consistent stitch definition.
Materials – Yarn and Tools
This cardigan is designed for double knitting (DK) weight yarn. The recommended yarn is Hayfield Bonus DK, a 100% acrylic fiber available in 100g balls. Yarn quantities vary by size, ranging from 6 balls for the smallest size (81cm bust) to 8 balls for the larger sizes (102–112cm bust). The pattern requires two crochet hooks: a 4.00mm hook for the main fabric (achieving 18 stitches and 11 rows over 10cm in trebles) and a 5.50mm hook for the patterned sections (achieving 24 stitches and 14 rows over 10cm). The cardigan closure requires 6 buttons for fastening.
Difficulty Level and Pattern Details
This pattern is rated as intermediate difficulty, suitable for crocheters with foundational skills who are ready to tackle garment construction with shaping and multiple stitch techniques. The pattern includes detailed sizing information with actual measurements provided for each size option, along with full length and adjustable sleeve length specifications. The use of UK crochet terminology ensures clarity for crafters familiar with British crochet conventions.
