Arwen Tee by Laura Dupuis

Garment Overview

The Arwen Tee is a top-down yoked knit designed by Laura Dupuis of Loyal Badger Knits. This intermediate-level pattern creates a cropped, semi-fitted short-sleeved top with a distinctive lacey leaf detail adorning the collar. The design offers 0.5 to 2 inches of positive ease, providing a comfortable yet tailored fit suitable for various body types.

Construction Method

This garment is constructed using a top-down yoked technique, a popular approach in modern knit design that allows for easy customization and fitting adjustments during the knitting process. Beginning at the neckline, the knitter works downward, incorporating the yoke shaping before transitioning to the body and sleeves. This method eliminates the need for seaming and provides excellent fit control.

Stitch Details and Techniques

The Arwen Tee features a lacey leaf motif worked around the collar area, adding visual interest and elegance to the neckline. The pattern includes instructions for body shaping using ribbing to create the semi-fitted silhouette, though alternative instructions are provided for knitters who prefer using decreases instead of or in combination with ribbing. This flexibility allows crafters to customize the garment's fit and drape according to personal preference.

Yarn and Materials

The Arwen Tee is designed to be worked with worsted weight yarn held together with an equal quantity of fingering weight yarn, creating a unique DK-weight fabric. Yardage requirements range from approximately 300 to 1000 yards depending on size, accommodating multiple sizing options. The sample pictured was created using Audine Wools by Knitcrate in colorways Leaf Eater and Jade Pool, combined with Shawl in a Cake by Lion Brand.

Tools Required

This pattern requires Size U knitting needles to work with the specified yarn combination, ensuring proper gauge and fabric characteristics for the finished garment.

Skill Level

Rated as intermediate difficulty, the Arwen Tee is suitable for knitters with foundational skills who are ready to tackle yoke construction and lace pattern work. The top-down methodology provides built-in opportunities to adjust fit during knitting, making it an excellent project for developing intermediate-level techniques.
