What is Being Made
The Anahata Cowl is a crocheted neck accessory designed by Rhondda Mol of Oombawka Design, Ltd. This cowl is a versatile, one-size-fits-most project with a finished width of approximately 3 inches, making it suitable for various neck sizes and styling preferences. The finished project uses approximately 311 yards of yarn, providing a substantial yet wearable garment.
Crochet Techniques and Construction
This intermediate-level crochet pattern employs fundamental techniques appropriate for crafters with some experience. The project demonstrates proper yarn management and shaping techniques necessary for creating a well-fitted neck cowl. Crocheters will develop skills in working with medium-weight yarn and understanding how to achieve the correct drape and fit for a cowl-style accessory.
Materials and Yarn Specifications
The Anahata Cowl is designed to be worked with Red Heart Yarns in medium weight yarn (weight category 4). The pattern calls for 7 oz (198 g) and 370 yards (338 m) of 100% acrylic yarn. Two color options are specified:
- Aubergine (E400_1542)
- Eggshell (E400_1101)
One skein of each color is required. The finished project utilizes approximately 5.9 oz of the total yarn provided.
Tools and Notions
To complete this project, you will need a 5.5 mm (size I) crochet hook, scissors, a yarn needle for weaving in ends, and a stitch marker to track your progress through the pattern.
Care Instructions
The acrylic composition of Red Heart Yarns makes this cowl easy to maintain. Machine wash in warm water on a gentle cycle, then tumble dry on low heat. Avoid over-drying, bleaching, and ironing to preserve the integrity of the finished garment.
Difficulty Level
Rated as Easy-Intermediate, the Anahata Cowl is accessible to crocheters who have mastered basic stitches and are ready to tackle projects with moderate complexity. This difficulty level makes it an excellent choice for advancing your crochet skills while creating a practical, wearable accessory.
