Fabulous pattern! Fun to make.
This is Clancy, an adorable dragonling and great friend! Clancy measures about 7 - 8 inches sitting in a DK yarn (excluding the horns), but he can be made from any weight yarn and appropriate hook for different sizes. It is an intermediate pattern to follow but has plenty of diagrams and photos and you will always be welcome to contact me for any extra help. This pattern is in US Crochet Terminology.
Materials needed:
• 100g ball DK weight yarn in Main Colour (I used Teal) • 50g ball DK weight yarn in Contrast Colour (I used gold) • 4mm (G) crochet hook • 3.5mm (E) crochet hook • 3mm crochet hook (for crochet eyes option) • Small amount of black yarn (for crochet eyes option) or • 2 x 20mm safety eyes • Toy filling • Yarn needle • Stitch markers
Clancy the Dragon is an amigurumi toy design created by Kate E Hancock. This intermediate-level crochet project produces a finished dragon approximately 7 to 8 inches (17 to 20 cm) in sitting height, excluding the horns. Amigurumi is a Japanese crochet technique for creating small, stuffed three-dimensional toys and decorative figures, making Clancy an ideal handmade gift or collection piece for craft enthusiasts.
This pattern employs fundamental amigurumi construction methods, requiring tight crochet work throughout to prevent toy filling from showing through the fabric. The design utilizes multiple crochet hook sizes to achieve proper tension and stitch definition across different components of the dragon. The pattern is written using US crochet terminology, making it accessible to crocheters familiar with American stitch abbreviations and techniques.
The multi-colored construction involves working with two yarn weights and colors to create visual contrast and dimensional details. Embroidery techniques are incorporated for finishing details such as the nose and toes, adding personalized character to the completed toy. Eye options include either crocheted eyes worked with black yarn using a 3mm hook or pre-made 20mm safety eyes, allowing crafters to choose their preferred finishing method.
While the PDF content provided does not specify individual stitch names in detail, amigurumi patterns typically employ fundamental crochet stitches including single crochet for tight fabric construction, increases and decreases for shaping three-dimensional forms, and slip stitches for joining rounds. The pattern structure suggests use of these essential techniques to build the dragon's body, head, limbs, horns, and other components.
The designer notes that yarn weight directly affects the finished size of the amigurumi. While the pattern is designed for DK weight yarn, crafters using different yarn weights such as Aran or Worsted will need to adjust hook sizes accordingly and may require different yardage amounts. The emphasis on tight crochet tension is critical for amigurumi construction, as loose stitching allows stuffing visibility and compromises the toy's appearance and durability.

Fabulous pattern! Fun to make.
I haven't finished crocheting Clancy yet, but the pattern is very thorough and easy to follow
Great pattern with excellent directions. I like that it shows how to assemble the pieces, because that is still new to me.
